Tom Cruise On Stage Addressing Throngs of Scientologists

Hacker group Anonymous has launched an all-out assault against Scientology and vowed that this is the beginning of the end of the cult in its current form. In addition to launching DoS attacks on Scientology servers, they have acquired and released lots of supposedly secret data including this video.

I think Mr. TCLTC loves Scientology so much because he finally found a religion where's he taller than its leader.

Seriously, I almost feel sorry for Tom Cruise. This feeling is based on the assumption that he's NOT making money off the whole Scientology scam, but rather he's just another rich, gullible victim. If he's being exploited like so many others then he's just as much a victim as any other cult member. But if he's a vested partner in these scams then fuck him. Of course the Church of Scientology so thoroughly obfuscates its finances that I doubt anyone could prove one way or another if Tom Cruise is making money on this shit.

I'll tell you one thing: He speaks with the wild-eyed conviction of a true believer. But he is an actor, and a good one at that. So we're back to square one in determining his true beliefs.

It's just so absurd in every way.

Look at that logo behind Cruise and the ridiculous medallion around his neck. Listen to that cheesy Mission Impossible-esque track that they use on EVERY SINGLE VIDEO, and what's with the Don Pardo on crack announcer? It honestly boggles my mind.

Scientology proves that - No matter how far technologically we will evolve we will still have some that need some kind of religion.

Oh my god that medal, that logo, its like they are the Galactic Senate voting to go to war against Xenu.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

^It's true. Atheists need to come to grip with the idea that there is something inherent in human nature that will always embrace and seek out religion.

Unless we can breed it out of us with eugenics ... here's hoping.

9058says...

I agree with you Dag but that inherent aspect of human nature is called fear. That is why on some level we will always seek out religion because we cant stand not to know (or at least think we know)

In a way that's one reason religion developed, to answer unanswerable questions. It flourished by accruing mass amounts of money and control through means of taxing the people (through guilt). It gained more power as it was backed by leaders as a source population/social control. Now it is passed along like a bad schoolyard joke from parent to child and is taught as truth. It's a folk tradition nightmare.

chilaxesays...

The vitriol directed toward Scientology doesn't seem proportionate in the bigger picture.

Their religious antics won't have a direct cost on your life the way traditional resistance to the biosciences from other religions does. You or your loved ones may someday actually die from an otherwise curable disease because medical research gets reduced funding each year or is otherwise impeded.

rottenseedsays...

Well their religious antics won't have a direct cost on my life yet. The problem with Scientology is that they're aiming for this kind of control (akin to many religions). Imagine the impact that it would have on the pharmaceutical industry alone if and when they have more control. The scarier part is that it's gaining power through money fast—very fast.

Furthermore, I'm not one to say that the pharmaceutical industry is clean and that they DON'T over-prescribe medication, especially in the psychiatric field where diagnoses can be a bit more subjective. But, to do away with a drug altogether is a ridiculous thought. There's a difference in what the Scientologists are saying about drugs and the problems caused by poorly planned drug and health plans.

I haven't watched more than 20 seconds of this and already I'm pissed. You don't force your beliefs on another. Don't these jagoffs know that's what's caused most of the war and bloodshed on this planet so far? They need a lesson is something called TOLERATION. Mindfucks.

therealblankmansays...

A note to anonymous: good luck with that.

History has shown that religions when subjected to persecution pretty much always just give up and go home. Witness Christianity, it has failed completely due to the attacks it received in the first and second centuries in the Roman Empire.

Is that a painting of L. Ron (what a hack) they salute? What is it he says right before?

BTW, after they put the "black box" warning on antidepressants, use of antidepressants among children went down while suicides went up. It's still too early to make a firm correlation, but the early evidence is not good.

Maybe L. Ron should have stuck to bad sci-fi and left psychology to the real "experts on the mind."

Yeah, it's called stupidity and gullibility.

Gosh, I almost believe that Tom Cruise is doing this because he finds it as hilarious as the rest of us do. That medal... it's just too good to be true.

"Scientology proves that - No matter how far technologically we will evolve we will still have some that need some kind of religion."

What? You're going to have to explain to me how Scientology proves that.
