Boise_Libsays...*promote
siftbotsays...Promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Monday, December 12th, 2011 9:20am PST - promote requested by Boise_Lib.
Boise_Libsays...I know I just wasted a promote: this was already on the front page.
But this is so freaking awesome I couldn't help myself.
longdesays...Good on them, but they should be in more conservative districts campaigning for this change. This vote is no more surprising than the San Fran vote a few years ago to end the Iraq War.
visionepsays...This is just a trick by our government to enact legislation that will lower the standard of living for alien species that might be coming to our planet soon.
Shepppardsays...Huh, when I see a title like "The vote that changed the world" i'd generally expect that it would actually mean something to people outside the U.S.
..Guess I was wrong.

I agree that the title is rather hyperbolic, but this could affect everyone if it gets anywhere. I'd be interested in knowing the actual effects of this - would Fox News not be able to lie and claim free speech? Would Exxon not be able to buy Senators? If this stopped shit from being stirred up state-side, it would make the whole world a better place.
However, a snappy video with some dramatic, inspirational music is but one very, very small step.
mizilasays...Seriously, eff Citizens United.
rebuildersays...Cut to the robot slave uprising.

Seriously, eff Citizens United.
Seriously, you don't make much of an argument.
Skeevesays...My immediate thought on reading the description was that they were voting to make sure AIs couldn't claim constitutional rights. I'm happier with the real meaning. >> ^rebuilder:
Cut to the robot slave uprising.
DarkenRahlsays...Inception abuse.
Paybacksays...Cue Randy Newman.
jmzerosays...I don't see this as a big deal. They've monkeyed around with campaign finance forever - coming at it in this oblique way isn't going to solve the problem. If people have money and they want to use it to make a point, they will be able to do so.
And what else is really at issue? I mean, tons of people have latched on to this as an aesthetic issue "I don't like corporations and how much power they have... so let's, uh... screw corporations?" This doesn't even do that.
If you're serious about limiting large corporations, then you need more regulation and labor laws and a whole panel of crap that's not politically viable in the states. Pissing around with something like this is a pointless distraction. All this stuff passes? Almost no functional difference.

What you don't understand is that these aliens are in fact collective entities classified in human terms as corporations. We must destroy these aliens because they will move in, crowd us out of our own cities and then rule us from afar, turning us into mindless consumers that produce nothing but slave labor.
