00Scud00says...Ah, memories.
It's a shame that the two most recent incarnations of Mechwarrior have been multiplayer only affairs, give me some decent singleplayer campaigns and I'll tell you to shut up and take my money.
OverLordsays...Damn, that music from Mechwarrior 2.
BoneRemakesays...LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE THIS GAME.
A possible install will become from this.
Mech 2.. what can I say, you can not beat that start up sound on a level.
RFlaggsays...Mechwarrior Online is free, so there is that as a small plus. I haven't spent a cent on it yet. They do want to add single player, or at least some PVE at some point. (http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/10/16/piranha-single-player-mechwarrior-online/)

Kofisays...I remember playing Mech 1. It so reminds me of Death track which I played around the same time.
probiesays...Dabbled with Mechwarrior 2 back in the day but it lost favor to Duke Nukem 3D and TIE Fighter. What I most remember from the games was the music, which is currently nestled away in my mp3 folder and Video Game playlist.
NicoleBeesays...Loved mechwarrior 2, remember it being cool, and that music.. I will have to pick the soundtrack up.
My memories of 4 are limited mostly to standing in water so my mech stuffed full of ER laser's wouldn't simply explode when I tried firing them.
KnivesOutsays...I remember the investment in joysticks that I made to really get the most out of Mech2-4. Trustmaster main stick + the throttle controller...
It was well worth it.
00Scud00says...Free or not, it still doesn't offer what I want, which is a singleplayer campaign, I can't help it, I'm just an antisocial gamer. (actually, if I was really antisocial I'd log on to servers and shoot my teammates in the back with an AC20.)
The article was interesting but I like some of the other commentators I have to wonder if making a singleplayer campaign would really require the kind of investment he's talking about. Now if you're shooting to be the next Halo, Call of Duty, of Assassins Creed then I suppose you might be looking at those kinds of numbers but games have been made on less and were still successful.

KnivesOutsays...@00Scud00 Agreed, I want to relive the inner sphere conflict as a member of the various houses, or as a clansman. The Battletech universe was so richly fleshed out, it's just a shame to turn it into FFA deathmatch.
Repomancersays...It warms the cockles of my black heart to see that people still remember Mech 2 fondly. The tale of its creation is long and bizarre; I may finish writing it down (if I get off my butt someday); it got weird beyond belief before it was all done.
It was accused in the press of feeling like a flight simulator, which is funny because that's what it was. I re-used the overall software design from a (real) flight simulator I wrote for my previous aerospace-type job.
Activision was huge fun when it was tiny. My license plate still reads MECH2.
Thanks, all.
NicoleBeesays...Whoa, uh..
Pardon me if I starstruck the heck out. Welcome, and thank YOU! Please do stay and enjoy the site a while. <3

EvilDeathBeesays...OMG, I haven't thought of Death Track in decades

00Scud00says...Well, actually, put enough jump jets on a Nova and it pretty much was a flight sim (still flew like a brick of course). I think the sim aspect of it went a long way towards making feel like you were really piloting a 30 plus ton war machine, yep, good times.
