TDS: CNN Leaves It There

Stewart destroys CNN for fact checking SNL, while being seemingly unable to fact check their own guests.

That was fantastic. Say what you want to about how crummy the news is, but at least we can hold on to the fact that folks like Stewart can still call them out on it.

I was worried that he'd have nothing funny to say post-Bush, but it turns out there's still plenty of moronic stuff going on for him to jab at. Kudos.

Holy crap, that's the best criticism of CNN that I've ever seen. He pointed out exactly what I hate about CNN.

But I still find myself watching CNN. Does a better news channel exist? Do we have real news anymore?

When the news is dense to the point of comedy, and the comedy is factual to the point of being news, we are in a steady decline.
In the immortal words of my old AOL account: Goodbye.

Which is why I have no problem with CNN fact-checking SNL. Since so many people are getting their news through shows like SNL and TDS, it's important that someone separates news and comedy (though admittedly not AS important as some other things).

Our generation doesn't remember, but the idea of getting news from the television used to be ridiculous. It still is. You have to read newspapers (online of course) to have any idea of what's really going on in the world. Get an RSS feed from your favorite paper and peruse at your leisure.

Sometimes JS swerves into something. Here is one of them. Modern news is a wasteland. But to be fair - it is was impossible to have 'all the people behind you' check the health care bill's actual facts because the bill hasn't been WRITTEN YET. There are several phantom bills in congress which are in the process of being written, rewritten, and getting the #$%^ ammended out of them. I'd love to see a news agency tackle THAT, but that would require them to get off their butts and leave the studio and Lord forbid a journalist actually goes out & does some work for a change...

That right there is why The Daily Show has won the late night Emmy 7 years in a row. Nobody else goes into that much depth on a subject. Hell almost every other late night show is nothing but cracking a few jokes on 'todays hot topic' and doing a 'bla' interview on an actor that has the same boring questions every single interview.

With The Daily show they go into depth and their interviews are thought provoking and leave watchers thinking and they are not afraid to bust some balls like this. As long as they continue to be this deep and well made they will continue to win that Emmy while every single other late night show looses.
