I'm pretty sure there's a brief shot of something like this in The Omen (1976) in the hospital; the nurse Gregory Peck is speaking with exits the shot by stepping into a one-person version of this. I always thought it was cool, and I'm glad to see this one.

I have to agree with other by saying this video has an incorrect title. it should read "Really cool old and not idiot proofed elevator".

There is nothing essentially dangerous about this elevator. It just does not have airbags, voice instructions, seat belts, padded walls, signs in 12 languages, or free helmets. I would love to have something like this in a building I work/live in.

Does this thing have any kind of automatic-shutoff safety mechanism whereby it the motor will halt if it detects any kind of impediment? Doesn't look like it.

as a father of 3 children this will give me nightmares.

It looks like the elavators dont have a roof, so there is no shear point or scissoring action . How bad would you have to fuck up to cut your head off with this? Has anybody decapitated themselves in the 101 years its been running?
