RyjkyjWhen you cook with garlic, if you don't like the smell, wash your hands with soap and cold water when you're done. The smell won't stick if your pores aren't open.
berticusi find that whistling while cutting onions works -- still need to wash hands afterwards though, or ;_;
spoco2Looks like the first trick didn't work for them, there was still cork in the bottle. And I'm constantly amazed that anyone doesn't know the floating egg thing. This is the second time I have seen it shown as a handy tip of late. Didn't everyone get taught this when they were kids?
BoneRemakeI always thought you used warm water because it freezes from the bottom up, NOT forcing the minerals/impurities into the center. or something like that
lurgeeI got schooled on the egg tip. Thanks #1!
casonsays..."Suprisingly, hot water freezes faster than cold anyway."
mmmyeah.......no.....reminds me of the old "cold water boils faster than hot" myth

It's not a myth, but it is not understood, and doesn't happen under all conditions.
It's called the Mpemba effect and is an observable outcome.
peter12says...WARNING unless you like cheese toast[-er].
Melted Toaster
FletchLight a candle and place it near onion while you're cutting it. No tears.
Also, warm water CAN freeze faster than cold, but not necessarily.
edit: Doh! @spoco2 already covered it.
messengerOverboiling only happens to me when the lid is still on. If I could have the lid on and a wooden spoon across the top at the same time, that hack might be useful.
PHJFI just tried the toaster thing and it burned the shit out of the bottom halves of the bread.
handmethekeysyousays...Wish I had heard #1 last week! I forgot the corkscrew on a picnic. Never occurred to me that I could have opened our pinot with the power drill, screws, and hammer I packed next to the sandwiches.
gwiz665@Lann uhm, you should research this.
sillmasays...coffee without a coffee maker = hobo coffee? Jesus some people have gotten used to some weird standards.
