She seems like a nice lady but in my opinion the idea of Monarchy should die with her. I'm just a stupid American, but I would like to see this concept die completely, even if it's just ceremonial. No more Kings, no more Queens.

Im a monarchist yet I'm an American as well. I love the British system how it is now. The queen is a figurehead that can unite the people, but they do have a democratic parliament of the people by the people. Course no government is perfect, hell Communism and Socialism on paper look like utopia's, look at star trek, it was a pure socialist society utopia no need for money, all needs met freely. But in practice those forms of government that look good on paper fall apart and tear just as easy as the paper it's written on.

But I do adore the monarchy, I've visited London a few times, visited Buckingham palace, did all the tourist trap tours, even the late night Beefeater off duty jack the ripper tours.

There's just something about the Monarchy that can unite the people when parliament can be seen as in shambles. I think of her as a backup system. If Parliament fails, people can still have faith in their Monarch. If the Monarch is failing people can have faith in their Parliament.

It's a nice backup system sorta, which we don't have in America, but our culture and way of life wouldn't work with that system. But their system is hundreds of times older than our country, we are pretty much the child in the world as far as age. They have buildings in London that are several hundred years older than the United States. And documents that are older than anything in the U.S.

I respect our brothers across the pond, nothing's perfect, but I do like the type Monarchy they have now a constitutional monarchy. It can act as a backup system in case of "shit hits the fan".

but in politics nobody will ever agree, which is what means the most, cause individualism and opinion, prejudice is what makes us human. I've traced my family tree back to Wales and Ireland on the ma/pa sides. Even though I'm southern "redneck" to the bone

Yeah but it's a fake uniting to me. So check this out, when a new government is formed the controlling party writes a speech for the queen and she reads it and yippie new government. Nobody asks her if she understood what she said or if she believes it, rightly because it's utterly fake. This is along the same lines as Ronald Reagan. He grew up reading what rich guys would tell him to say, so he did the same thing as president. He was credited with this big surge of the Republican party, everyone all ecstatic about the whole thing but after his presidency no reporter bothered to go ask him about anything. No one interviewed him about this stuff because it was known that he doesn't know anything about it, he's not in charge.

It's basically the same with Bush, president for 8 years, big republican gains under his presidency, world shaking effects. You have to struggle to find an interview with him, or something he's written about that means anything. So we've turned our presidency into a sort of Royalty, and that's why it's completely pathetic.

Nothing wrong with a benevolent monarchy but aside form the likes of maybe Hassan II of Morrocco in recent times and maybe King David or Solomon when the hell has there been one?

The Queen mothers' much more than a " figurehead that can unite the people" there sir, what fantasy cruise are you on??

But isn't it kind of ironic that it's probably Americans (or at least its media) that's MORE enamored of royalty than people of countries that actually do have ceremonial monarchies?

You have your Queen B, GOATs real or imaginary, all the Yas Queens that Americans in general treat BETTER than actual royalty. Yes I know, the difference is talent instead of hereditary. But it's still a sort of human worship. The MAGA crowd elevate Trump to God-like level of royalty in terms of devotion for whatever f**k they believe.

There's not much a difference to me in terms of rationality.

Besides, the British monarch as a net money maker for the government. Bringing over 1 billion BP per "normal" (read: non-Covid lockdowns) year while costing a little over 100 millions supporting the Monarchy per year on average, from merch & tourism dollars the Firm brings into the government's coffer. It's more a Win to keep them than abolish the Firm... still. After Queen Elizabeth II's death... we'll see.
