QLIMAX - The Most Insane Rave Party Ever.

Yikes, 11 minutes of eardrum-splitting 30" woofers blasting out that bass.... ouch! I went through a few years of a drum-n-bass phase, but got such massive headaches I had to stop.

If you like Trance that's a bit more relaxing than this, I highly recommend Paul Oakenfold's GU007 album. I make sure to listen to the first disc at least once a month!

Ok, I know I sound like my dad right now...but do the "songs" ever change or is it the same bass drum/bass rift over and over and over again for 5 hours? Honestly, I've been to a few of these and the music sounds the same through the ENTIRE time. Then afterwards you get these morons saying "wow, that was a great DJ!". What? WTF are they talking about?

A computer with a big HD and pre-programmed music is all you need, then anyone can be a "great DJ" without any musical training at all. Kids, don't learn how to play an instrument. Forget about music theory and practicing those damn scales...all you need is a computer, a sound system and YOU TOO can be a famous DJ! No training required.

Ok, I've officially become my dad now when he used to rail against my music (Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Stones).

Yes, there's a difference. It starts with a base of House music which is composed of an even 4/4 kick bass drum beat. From there there are a million different styles of House, Trance, Techno, etc., etc. This is in contrast to breakbeats where the kick is pretty much whatever you want it to be.

If you are really interested there's a fairly good site that shows the rediculous amount of "styles" involved in Electronic music. It's called Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music.

As for the DJ's, some of them actually produce the music they are spinning too. A good DJ will spin music to guide the crowd where he/she wants to take them, bringing them up or down or whatever. They also mix music together in new and interesting ways so a song can sound completely different when it's mixed with something else. But on the other hand, a bad DJ is nothing more than a glorified CD changer. And a really bad DJ will bring a party to a crashing halt.

That's all my opinion anyway. In my mind, all hip-hop sounds the same and I don't like it, so it's all a matter of preference.

The music is repetitive. But my pet peeve is this: People dancing with lit cigarettes! How many people go home with cigarette burns on their arms from some x'ed to the gills girl waving her stupid lit cigarette around?

Are you guys serious? You obviously don't know how much work it takes to create music or mix to tracks together. DJing it self is very complex and for you to say that a person with no training can do it is BS! Making Music, electronic or not, takes skill and training. Even if you people don't like the music, it still takes skill that has to be developed.
