I'd say a good, solid hug that feels like it means something (and before it gets too uncomfortable) is somewhere in the 4-6 second range.

I had a girlfriend who when she was away at college I would drive up and visit her. She would meet me in the parking lot and everytime without fail Hug me for almost a Solid Minute. Whatever I would do she wouldn't let go. I wish I could marry her now because I remember how great those hugs made me feel.

Even if I hated this video, I'd have to upvote it just for the thumbnail. Best thumbnail ever?

When a hug gets to the point where you feel it's too long, it's because you are starting to feel vulnerable. It's usually best to hang on and enjoy the hug for all its worth!
