Police Infiltrators and Provocateurs Caught On Tape

This is very, very scary. This is frightening because when you mix a malleable movement like Occupy Oakland and police infiltrators who want to urge the crowd into shenanigans you get riots in the streets and the police are able to arrest everyone. I havent seen any evidence of this happening at Occupy Oakland, though I have seen it before. One thing is obvious, an undercover cop wearing a political Tee and hanging out in a protest should be unacceptable police procedure for a supposedly democratic society.

Also, supposedly in Two Thousand and Four a law was passed banning many of the weapons used on Oakland protesters last Wednesday. Watch for more news and an impending class action lawsuit.

Yep, that was definitely a video of some cops walking around and riding bikes without uniforms. Not really the solid evidence of wrongdoing I was hoping for.

That is why I wrote that there is no evidence that I see. Regardless, cops walking around with people looking like Black Bloc is very suspicious. The other cop is wearing a very political shirt. If they were undercover... why are they not acting more like under cover cops ie everyday joes? Instead they suggest that they are politically motivated.>> ^entr0py:

I have to admit I scanned over your description, then watched the video. Sorry about that. You've got a very good point about the black bloc getup. Both because they are the group that is more likely to instigate rioting, and because it doesn't seem right for a police officer to cover his face on duty for the purpose of hiding his identity. But now I'm curious, what's the political shirt? Is the El Jefe shirt a reference to Castro or something?

i think in one instance of this type of bullshit in canada, the officers were spotted by their distinct shoes...despite attempts to disguise everything else about themselves .. and they were definitely instigating things to get the crowd riled up. it was like, official n shit but i dont wanna look it up. G20 protests was it?? hmmm

I gotta say thank you to Videosift folks. This video only had about a hundred hits until this was posted here and now this video has received more publicity through this site... we are making impact and it gives me hope and I feel like you all feel the same. FUCKING VIDEOSIFT FOR THE WIN!

A few years ago I would have been appalled that the police would infiltrate a movement to incite violence or re-direct them. It's un-American.

Today, I expect it. Because as I keep saying. The police are the front line of the Plutocracy.

Yeah, fuck the cops. They're not allowed be part of the solution. They must not think for themselves. There is no possible way he's there because he believes in the protest and we should absolutely apply the "guilty until proven innocent" principle here.

hpqpsays...

It is very possible, as @ChaosEngine points out, that these cops are simply partaking in the protest on their time off. Cops are people too, something a dangerous amount of people prefer to ignore.

That being said, infiltration of opposition movements is one way to stifle them. Here in Switz Nestlé went to court in 2008 for hiring private security agents to infiltrate an anti-capitalist organisation that was writing a report on Nestlé's actions throughout the world (article). This, with the passive complicity of the state police, who knew what was going on and had access to the information being gathered. Needless to say, Nestlé won the court case on legal technicalities.

(on a side note, fuck the black bloc tactics, that shit completely ruins protests' credibility.)

shagen454says...

If you guys really believe any one of these cops wants to be apart of the protest and at the same time is one of the people containing the protest then I urge you guys to encourage these people to step up for an interview. I have a crew that would interview them with immense respect in a heartbeat.

Have to say, this video really didn't provide me with much. Need a lot more information to make anything of this. These were plainclothes cops, or even cops on their off-hours. I don't see absolutely anything that would make me think that his choice of Tshirt was in any way inappropriate: the video provides no evidence that he was told to wear that Tshirt, nor does it provide any evidence that he was doing anything other than standing around like so many others.

I'm all about those videos showing the cops DOING something wrong (flashbangs, etc.), but this is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Plainclothes cops are not only legal, they are often times exceptionally useful for the RIGHT reasons.

Show me a video of a plainclothes cop doing something WRONG and I will condemn them. I fear this video with cause knee-jerk reaction against two officers who for all you know could be sympathetic to the protesters, and/or just good cops.

This was another one that I just could not believe when I saw it. I thought this kind of thing was below an organization of citizens. But I agree, now I expect it.

Even though this footage is from Canada, this is the way Democracy works. I understand counter-protests and propaganda, and even just plain making-fun-of and harassing people that you don't like. But this covert-infiltration is worse than if the police had just used direct violence. As an American, I would fully support the idea that anyone being guilty of a crime like this, or even caught hiding it, should be tried for treason against their country and punished accordingly.

Thanks, as a Canadian I find this utterly appalling. I want these guys fired and charged along with anyone above them involved with the event.
