Lithic link works

Sorry but "region block" does not equal dead. I could go find this clip on youtube and use that but within 24 hours it would be truly "dead" so what's the point?

Dead means that the link doesnt work, which in fact it is for 95% of the world

95% of the world? Possibly.

95% of Sift members? Don't think so!

What you seem to be suggesting is that if you can't watch the video then no one should be able to watch it. Either way...you don't get to watch it so what's the point?

Shepppardsays...

It's a decent movie, although I did have to watch the linked version because of the region blocking..

I can see points on both sides of the argument, In one hand, the sift is all about posting the best movies on the net, so put it on here.

On the other, what's the point in posting a movie if only a fraction of the people will be able to view it.

I'm not blaming anybody here for it, dog knows it's not the sifts fault the movie doesn't work for us.

and @ Grimm, It may not be 95% of the sifters, but I don't think that Americans outnumber us by that much, truly.

The issue of region block might be a huge issue, but I don't see how it is so in this case. Like Grimm pointed out it is avaible on youtube (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-guuEDh0HFg for example) so why not use that when it is avaible? If you can use a none region blocked source it to me borders moronic not to. Why only make it available to some when you can make it available to all?

Grimm pointed out that it will be dead soon if youtube is used, that might be so or it might not, the link I posted just above has been online for over 3 days, which is longer then this has been on sift. Even if the specific link died it could be updated to a new version on youtube or some other place, even a region locked one if no others are available, but while none region blocked sources ARE available I see no good reason not to use those.

so if I were to post a video limited to some huge isp, would that be ok? how about only for canada or only for the uk?

If only a limited number of people can see the video then the chances it will be sifted will be greatly reduced. That is the chance you or I take when posting a region blocked video. If I can't see it I'm not going to vote for it that's all.

But I'm not going to DEAD the video or down vote it just because of that.

I've played that game before...use a youtube link it goes dead and the video is tagged dead within hours, find another link and again within hours the whole process repeats. Meanwhile because I'm not sitting at my PC 24/7 monitoring my videos that video ends up being dead the majority of it's time in the queue and loses out on far more potential votes and views in my opinion then a region blocked video would.

BTW...I would have considered using your "non-youtube" version since it's chance of getting pulled would be less likely then a youtube video...except it has no embed code. In fact that link is were I saw the video first and I would have been happy to use it as the source if an embed was available. But I'm tired of playing the "dead" video game with youtube when it comes to NBC, FOX, CC related materieal because they are so vigilant about getting it removed from youtube.
