newtboysays...So it's come to this.
AeroMechanicalsays...It looks like it meets my requirements. Giant robots fighting other giant robots and monsters in a city in daylight. The rest looks pretty weak, but I'm up to watch the Giant Fighting Robots Special Effects show.
Mordhaussays...I was hoping for a true sequel, but it looks like they are going for a bit of a reboot. Oh well, still gonna watch it.
siftbotsays...1 more comment have been lost in the ether at this killed duplicate.
ChaosEnginesays...What makes you say it's a reboot? Looks like it's a sequel to me (main character is even Idris Elba's characters son).
That said, I see where you're coming from. I loved Pacific Rim; I didn't even know they were making a sequel and then I saw this and I was stoked... until I watched it.
And meh... doesn't do it for me. Shame they could get Del Toro back, and the less said about the shitty soundtrack for the trailer the better.
Still gonna watch it though, which is more than I can say about Justice League.
Now I have to go watch the Thor Ragnarok trailer again to cheer myself up.

newtboysays...I think it's really part 3. There was a straight to DVD Atlantic Rim a few years back.

entr0pysays...Actually that was a "mockbuster".

I didn't know those were still a thing until I noticed the hilariously bad looking Krampus knock off at redbox last year.

Mordhaussays...For me, I would have only considered it a true sequel if it was taking place somewhat soon after the original and had the same actors (well, the ones that lived).
It's not a full reboot, but kind of soft one. X number of years in the future, the son of one of the old characters, etc etc. It's kind of a reboot lite.

newtboysays...Ha!
Sci-fi channel makes these constantly....or at least airs them. They're usually a few rungs below the likes of Sharknado with 1990 videotoaster graphics and pure ripoff plots.
