Looks like a distinct possibility.

After watching this I got the distinct impression that Don (Get Smart) and Edward (Chief) didn't like each other much, they seemed to be close to fighting most of the time, and making snide remarks to each other.

Although I just read here: "Part of that came from the great working chemistry between Platt and Adams. Adams, who had a photographic memory, used to bet Platt that he would mess up difficult lines. To help him win the bet, Adams would often rewrite the Chief's lines."

So I guess it was friendly ribbing...

Man, Don Adams was great on this show. As much as I enjoy Steve Carell, his upcoming attempt looks pretty damned disappointing.
