rougyThe more and more I listen to, and learn about, Orson Welles, the more I'm convinced that he was a profound genius and a truly great man.
ambassdorinteresting watch. fanx for the post
Maurusays...orson is/was the man- you should check out his moby dick readings... pure awesomeness...

BoneyDThe interviewer didn't seem to crack at the turned tables, I liked him. Is he still about?
rougyDick Cavett is still alive, but I don't see much of him these days.
I agree, he's a pretty clever fellow, too.

A great TV moment. I wish Talk Shows were like this still. Compare this to something like Jay Leno.
MINK"you can say anything with passion and you get a hand" lol
Smugglarnsays...They are both quite eloquent and have wonderful accents and tones of voice. Does anyone here know what accents those are (if different) and where you speak them?
Could be some standardised broadcasting accent common in many countries in the past perhaps, but I must say it is by far the most pleasant American accent I've ever heard(being schooled in RP at university).
pmkierstsays...Wow, what charisma. Extremely impressive and I have to admit, both do indeed have wonderful voices and accents.
How rare to see an interview with two literate, smart and well spoken individuals that are a pleasure to listen to.
rougy"They are both quite eloquent and have wonderful accents and tones of voice. Does anyone here know what accents those are (if different) and where you speak them?"
I think Cavett's is a mixture of the almost "accentless" meter of Lincoln, Nebraska, and his formative years at Yale University.
Welles' accent, I think, is a product of his education, theatrical training, and his many travels. (he was a very fine actor when he was young)
bellmansays...Both men grew up in radio. That voice, and in particular Welles' cadence, comes in part from that training. Welles, even drunk, fat, Welles, was 100% pure genius. There is simply no one left who comes close. This is the kind of stuff that makes you wonder what happened to television.
choggieNot every day one gets to pimp Orson

spoco2Fantastic stuff... really fascinating. I don't know Dick Cavett, me being Australian.. but in response to dag. "I wish Talk Shows were like this still. Compare this to something like Jay Leno." You're looking at the wrong shows, they're variety shows, you're after real interview shows.
Here in Australia, we have the brilliant 'Enough Rope' with Andrew Denton: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=denton+enough+rope&search=Search
Or in the UK there is Parkinson: http://youtube.com/results?search_query=Parkinson&search=Search
The shows are there, you just need to know where to look.

I suppose you're right Spoco2 - the comparison is probably unfair. In the US you could compare this to a Charlie Rose interview.
I like Andrew Denton too. I enjoyed his interview with the Waifs a few weeks ago. [off to search for it]
edit: and here it is.
choggiewow spoco2...thanks-

spoco2Thanks dag for the Waifs clip... I didn't even notice they'd been on...
swampgirlI think this is part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHI5BYmWDtU

westyOrson Welles seems to have an ego the size of a barn yard , and he is to comanding for my taste.
i mean at least he has achived allot so he is nowhere near as bad as people with huge ego that dont have annything to back it up , but at the same time i realy dislike people with large ego.
rougy^ You always crack me up, Westy.
You have this non sequitur, longshoreman, observational style that always makes me wonder if you're for real or playing a role.
