YogiNo one on the field complained, they all thought it was a goal so the ref went with it.
What I want to know is, what first division stadium has a HOLE in the net? This isn't the local park, I've seen High Schools replace nets before games when I ask them to. It's completely ridiculous at that level to have ANY holes in the net whatsoever.
articianThat's crazy and sucks for the team. I'm guessing it wasn't reviewed until after the game? Otherwise it's an unforgivable slip, if it makes the difference between win or lose.
... What am I saying? I don't give a shit about sports.

DeanoThat's on the referee. He's supposed to check the equipment out before the start of the game.
radxI don't quite get the calls for a rematch, to be honest. There'd be no rematch if he scored from an offside position or if the ball didn't cross the line, yet the result is just the same: an irregular goal.
ZawashActually, there are several holes in the net. Nets are - by definition - quite holy. It's the size of the hole that's the problem.

VoodooVAs I watch it more, you can see the part of the broken net dangling AFTER the goal, but I can't see it before the goal. So is it possible the net wasn't broken, just weak and that hit broke it and let the ball through?
hermannthegermanThere is a video that shows right before the second half starts, that the linesman controls the net (if the connection to the posts is as it should be), but misses the broken net (not the hole, since a net is just a collection of holes
) - Sadly I cannot find it on youtube, i saw it on TV after watching the game.
PaybackALL PRAISE THE NET!!! BOW DOWN BEFORE THE HOLY NET!!!

mxxconA goal should be considered when a ball crosses the goal post line, not when it ends up in the net...
shatterdrosesays...But what about the guy who kicked the ball back into the net? Shouldn't that count for something?
