"Officers Trap Group of Students On A Staircase"

The 1st alive and well! Trapped like rats! Then they wonder why people react Violently!

You present force, force well be there. You look for violence then there will be violence.

You corner an animal, in this case a mammal, you are lucky to be left alive.

These students did not attack them back, I commend them.

edit- nm, I looked into what this gather was all about. I thought the police where taking on an actual riot, not creating one.

I will say within this horrid show of force, at least some reason was shown by the cops that let the students flee to a safe location once they realized their own orders where conflicting with the fact the students couldn't actually abide to them. Imagine if they just started arresting all those students for 'not following the cop's orders'.

Sad day for Pittsburgh though.

Uh, yeah, I'm looking forward to the lawsuits. The US is among the most litigous societies on earth. Will be interested to see how this pans out. "I'm just getting a little nervous"... yeah, you're bleeding from the neck. Wildwestshow indeed.

Not sure what else there is behind the story here. From what the video shows, the police are breaking up a riot of some sort. These students are watching the riot get broken up from a stairway that is between the police and the rioters. I don't really so how one should expect the police to know that the students weren't part of the rioters who decided to spread out onto that stairway. Once the police were able to assess the situation the students were in, they were sent on their way. I don't see a major story here, it looks like the police did a pretty good job of using minimal force to get things in hand. Unless there is more story here about why the police shouldn't have been breaking up the riot in the first place, I don't see a problem. If they had to break up that riot, they handled these kids situation as well as can be reasonably expected.

A protest turns into a riot when people force you to give it up; in other words I would like to know if this was a botched police action (or over reaction). I don't know the details of course, but it seems the new method of control is to suppress first and apologize later.

I must be getting older; all I see are trust fund babies looking for drama.

1) If you peeked out of your house (their dorm) to watch a riot and police pummeled you with tear gas preventing you from getting back to your home you'd be pretty fucking pissed and or traumatized.
2) I don't think many trust fund kids go to the university of Pittsburg but isn't it a bad sign when even the trust fund kids are being tear gased?
3) Yeah they over did the drama a bit "severely burned" etc but kids over react by nature, not design.
4) There's the whole other issue of whether actual protesters have a right not to be tear gassed.

It's all about violent unaccountable unilateral authority being repugnant. Can I do the same thing to you and tell you you're a baby looking for drama?

You know I really can't wait for the first group of protester to be properly prepared, and take down the mob of police.

Who wouldn't love to see an army of storm troopers hogtied and left squirming in the street?
