yoghurtsays...Ha! I had the same thought watching the last scene of Trek yesterday!
Paybacksays...More like...
Someone from the Romulan star system gets a really big, spiky ship and goes about killing people until the Enterprise is almost destroyed stopping it.
Yes, I refer of course to Star Trek: Nemesis.
Anything is completely the same if you generalize enough. Hell, Star Wars was just a rehash of 1950s Buck Rogers serials.
budzossays...Holy bad examples Batman. Yeah guys, stop generalizing about the two Star Trek movies in a row that both have Romulans with huge ships and a personal grudge against someone on the Enterprise. That's so general, get specific!
Also, yeah any two things can be the same if you are general enough, like if you look at it from a certain angle Star Wars is a lot like the thing it has been publicly tied to from inception, with George Lucas repeatedly stating pulp serials as the inspiration for his movie.
Two worst examples ever, lol.
Now that it's fully percolated I'm having a hard time thinking of this movie as "Star Trek" in my mind. I literally have it mentally filed under "Star Trek for Bubbleheads".
ElessarJDsays...Agreed Budzos. It's like 90210 meets Star Trek. I found the film entertaining as an action flick, but am saddened by what they're doing with Star Trek. With the cheap move they pulled, they no longer need to adhere to the well established universe we've come to know and love. Assholes.
djsunkidsays...uhhhhh.... I thought that Star Wars was a remake of Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hidden_Fortress#Influence
budzossays...No, it wasn't a remake of Hidden Fortress. The story was strongly inspired by Hidden Fortress. The style of Star Wars was mainly an update of the old 30s and 40s serials (Flash Gordon was one of them).
