Modern Warfare 2: "No Russian" Mission

A mission that is dedicated to killing off Russians... Back when this mission was first shown, it was very controversial, due to the idea of mowing down many innocents in an airport... I can go into a big summary about it, but instead, its better to just show the mission in its entirely...

Also yes, at the start, your pretty much walking as your shooting, it isn't until the police arrive do you finally start to run...

Actually it's called "No Russian" as in language - don't speak Russian. One of the characters says that at the beginning of the level, becuase the people commiting the act were Russian save one American. Vast difference between "No Russians" vs. "No Russian" (as in language spoken).

True, but don't you think the play on words is intentional?

What gets me about it is how utterly bullshit it is. I understand you play a "deep cover" operative tasked with getting incriminating evidence on the bad guy, who is present, killing innocents, and you have a gun, a BIG gun.

I'm sorry, but you're guilty of the same murders you are, at best, letting to happen, at worst, participating in.

Logicially, you would have opened fire on the rest of your party as soon as the shooting started. Which, of course, would have ended the game right there, but meh, still haven't bought it, it's not below $30 yet.

This is repulsive. I don't care what story elements brought it into being. Having a player target enemy soldiers is one thing. Targeting innocents is completely different. And it sounds like it didn't even make sense in the story. Ugh. Glad I never bought that game.

So, you're telling me after your player is shot in the face and the police find you after massacring hundreds of people including some of their own officers, you actually survive to play more levels?

No, you play (I think) 3 different characters in the game.

It made sense in the story (I don't think you get to comment on this, having not played the game). When I played through, I didn't shoot a single innocent (but I shot the hell out of the stores, TVs, windows and such). This is part of the game where you get to decide how you want to play it. Are you saying that someone undercover has never been put into a situation like this? Undercover cops haven't been pressured into doing drugs in front of criminals and such? Why shouldn't this be in the game?

I think the whole point of this level is to get you to go wild shooting at civilians just to surprise you at the end by shooting you in the face when you expect a pat on the back. You do your best to blend in with the bad guys, in utter vain.

I knew I was an undercover agent before I started the mission, I knew I would have the opportunity to shoot or not shoot at civilians even before I laid hands on the game, yet since I didn't know the denouement of the mission the trick worked perfectly when I played it. It was one of those rare times I had mixed feeling about getting killed in a cutscene (I usually simply get angry). It worked way better than anything in the first game, although the rest of the story was shit.

immediately before this you're riding around on a snowmobile doing jumps all 'James Bond style' and then immediately afterwards you're dumped in a Brazilian favela to take out some thugs. in a game which is merely a bunch of action set-pieces held together loosely by a silly-string plot this scene was so out of context that you can't respect it. it was just put in there because they could.
