A Russian Zoo recently celebrated a very unusual new arrival: Kiara the "liliger". Kiara's father is an African lion and her mother is a liger, a cross between a lion and a tiger, making Kiara the world's first known "liliger".

Supposedly, and I am not sure if this is true, ligers are much larger than either lions or tigers. This is because tigers have a gene that suppresses lion growth gene. As a consequence, ligers almost never stop growing.
