Mass Effect 2 Launch Trailer

Rated E for Extreme Epicness.

A Mass Effect 2 trailer you say? But those are more rare than the freckled unicorn! I’d heard rumour they were even extinct. But no, it is real, it is yours to watch below.

Has any game received more trailers? Better question: has any game had so many good trailers? This latest, and perhaps even last, is absolutely stunning. 150 awesomes. (via Rock, Paper, Shotgun)

Well, I don't think the space genre is that great, but that trailer seemed quite epic to me. Also, Dragon Age: Origins was one of the 5 best games I've ever played. Wish I had time to play this.

Looks like more of the same - huge budget, realdoll romance, script constructed by gluing together the top 20 hackneyed scifi clichés of all time. Can't say about the gameplay of course, but it sucked in the original, don't expect it to be significantly different now. The only way I've ever liked combat in RPGs is if it's done as it was in Baldur's gate etc - giving you the ability to really micromanage your party members. Don't see that happening here.

Upvoted for the description alone.

Also, seriously? Already? Shit, I almost feel bad for EA. But then again, fuck those guys and the DLC armor wearing horse they rode in on.>> ^ajkido:
I would just like to thank the good people of Razor1911.

Dragon Age:Origins is a bit like that. But still kinda watered down.

And yes thank you Razor1911.

It's dripping with pathos ... again. So I'm with the "meh"-faction this time.

Bought part one during the Steam Christmas Sale last month for a few bucks. Good times, so maybe I'll break a twenty for the second installment.

Hey, the faster the game gets pirated, the faster I get to finish it and decide if I want to lay down money for it.

DA:O felt like it had a very classical combat system, almost archaic in some respects, except they took out the ridiculous anomalies from previous games like having to rest unnecessarily and just introduced cool downs instead, among other similar fixes. Supposed to have been the spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate series.

Anyway about 3 hours into ME2 and so far I'm quite impressed. It might rely on cliches but the main focus much like DA:O is on believable and deep characterization. So far it's doing a great job. Combat also feels somehow better than ME1, although I can't recognize any obvious differences.

Can't really say anything wrong about the graphics and modelling. I mean it's not ground-breaking but there's nothing bad about it. Not to mention comparing an RPG like this say to a much tighter and shorter FPS experience is unfair. With greater swathes of content comes development constraints on other aspects. In the same way that even modern MMORPGs will look downright average compared to single player RPGs, simply because they have even more gamespace still.

Also this generation's consoles are well into their life cycle. Since everything is dominated by console sales, graphics improvements stall. Even then I will be DAMN HAPPY if that kind of limitation results in more effort being devoted to gameplay, originality and plot development.

I thought the first Mass Effect was perhaps the best sci-fi experience to be had. The art and music were perfect, the plot was only cliched in the way that all action plots are (i.e. something evil is coming to kill lots of people). My only complaints were about technical shortcomings -- some loading screens just lasted too long, and many of the side quests were a bit too bland and repetitive.

Supposedly they've taken a swing at fixing those two things, as well as a big focus on trying to make the combat more involving (it did get a bit simplistic, especially once you got leveled and geared up).

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this one.

All I need to know is "Do I have to play the first one to play this one?"

No, but it's highly recommended. If you want to save time in the first one, avoid the side quests...they are meh at best, but the main storyline is pretty good, and probably won't take more than 8 hours to complete.
