Dumdeedumsays...There's two certainties with "mind reading" magic videos:
1) Someone will say it's NLP in the YouTube comments.
2) It's not NLP.
noimsI'm pretty sure I can see how he did it.
In each case, he manually checked if the coin was in the pocket before giving the choices. He could then say 'choose Red if the coin is in your hand' because he knows Red is written on the bill.
I caught where he could have done the first and second checks:
1: as he touched Jinny's shoulder at 1:59
2: with his leg at 3:08
For the third the camera was pointing away, so I couldn't tell.
Nice trick though, and well executed.
lolzIt was starting out great, but now no one is voting for it.
siftbotPost cannot be self promoted by original submitter lolz because lolz does not have enough Power Points. (You can always purchase more Power Points.)
lolzIdk if it's all planned out or if this is actually real, to me it doesn't matter... I just think it's amazing either way.
TrancecoachWhy'd this dude kill Harvey Milk?
Bruti79says...No Derren Brown tags available. It's pretty much the same. If you read Derren's book, it's sort of nlp and it sort of isn't. He's just looking for a reaction to one of the options, he'll give away tells for sure, most of us do.
Long and short is, NLP is that everyone gives the exact same tells for certain things, when in reality we all give tells, but they're our own personal one. You just have to see what tells the person gives away.
I hope that mini Derren Brown fanboy rant helped a bit. =)
Jinxsays...Yeah, but Derren Brown also said "the wisdom of crowds" can predict lottery numbers.
I've no idea how they do it and I haven't read Derren's book, but I'd take anything his, and anybody else who make a living off not revealing their secrets, explanations with a pinch of salt.
ps. Is Fallon drunk or is he still on strong painkillers for that finger?

lolz@chicchorea
Im just wondering, but why did you down-vote my video?
aaronfrWell, now I've downvoted it as well. For two reasons:
1. It was a pretty standard mind-reading/prediction trick
2. Because it is an option. It's not "your" video and downvoting is not a reflection on you as a person. Most people seem to up-vote or not vote at all, failing to exercise their third option. I choose to use all options available to me, including downvoting "meh" videos.
lolzLol I was just asking a question... no need to go hatin' on me for just a simple little question.

And I'd like to see you try and do that magic trick, you wont think its so easy then
Bruti79says...I'd say pick up the book, it's a pretty good read. If it counts for anything, when I watched it the first time, I recognized it as a Derren Brown bit, and was able to get the right answer every single time.
Edit: Er, to clarify I have no idea how he does the stuff written down on the bill; the same way I have no idea how Derren does that bit. He does keep some secrets to himself. Imo, his best acts are when he tells us how the trick is going to work, does the trick, and we still have no idea how it worked. =)

iauiWell, only privileged users are able to downvote. It isn't like Reddit where everybody can downvote. I believe people care for their videos in a different way on VideoSift because we like this community in a different way than others. Downvoting a video 'because it is an option' doesn't make sense here. What you're saying with your special-privilege downvote is that you as a trusted administrator of the VideoSift site think less people should see this video.
It's a fine video of a fun trick and a mind-reading/prediction trick isn't something we've seen recently on the sift. It's good to have around and I'm glad I saw it. I think the reason you chose to assert that less people should see the video is unfounded. I look forward to your rebuttal.

aaronfrDownvoting once a video is published - made it past 10 votes - doesn't really have the effect that you seem to be implying. It still makes it to the frontpage which is probably the only place where 90% of Videosift visitors ever go. Downvoting potentially keeps a video lower on - or off of - the top 15 list, which is fine by me because I feel the other videos there are more worthwhile.
But what bothered me, really, is that someone is being asked to account for their downvote. This has also happened to me at least twice (three times if you include this instance) and I find it a little strange. Rarely is someone asked to explicitly state why they liked a video or to give reasons that they watched a video but failed to vote for it.
Downvoting is an option for privileged members. The rules clearly state that we should not downvote based on who posted the video, but on the content alone. I have, on this day (yesterday), chosen to express my "meh" feelings towards a video with a downvote and may continue to do so in the future. I don't think that is rude or pretentious or denying other people any access or participation in this community. It's just me not sitting on the fence anymore.
iauiAn upvote and a downvote are like a little bit of love and a little bit of hate. We don't ask people to account for their love because everybody likes love and wants more. Certainly in this situation at least where the 'type' of love is clear. However, downvotes are little bits of hate and I think it's perfectly justified to question a downvoter as to their reasoning. Certainly if it's done politely, as it was here.
You can see that lolz was caught off guard by your harsh reaction to his polite request. I think you've been a bit heavy-handed in your response.
<see above>
iauiAlso, somewhat separately, I think downvotes should cost the downvoter something. This is how it's done on StackOverflow (and the entire StackExchange Q&A network,) and balances out the emotional cost of downvoting, making the act non-trivial for the enforcer.
In short, I propose downvoting should cost a Power Point.
iauiAnd back on topic, I just can't see how the touches at each of these moments could give the toucher enough information about whether the coin is or isn't in his pocket. At 1:59 he barely touches the outer flap of his jacket which isn't touching his pants. Can you explain how this can transmit that info?
I'm pretty sure I can see how he did it.

ulysses1904Will everyone on the Internet please take a minute to look up the definition of the words hate, hatred, hating, haters, etc.
There's differing opinions, constructive criticism, opposing viewpoints, and people who just don't happen to like the same shit that you do, get over it. Hate has become just another teenage drama word.

lucky760He never actually touches his pant leg to test if it's there and that would be too much of a giveaway.
Perhaps there's something rigged under his own clothes (like a metal detector) that triggers if the coin is detected when he gets near.
