joedirtThey have references to Joe Dirt, linux Tux, manbearpig, and jumping the shark.

Indeed, Mr. Gore has endlessly promoted his environmental documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" since its release in May. But a spoof of the film -- titled "Al Gore's Penguin Army" -- is now featured on YouTube.com, a popular Internet video site. The Wall Street Journal yesterday reported that the video was produced by the DCI Group, a District-based ad agency that works for Mobil Exxon Corp. The spoof is one of several already posted.
---
What I don't understand is what the spoof is trying to say. Is the message, "X-Men is cool, so just ignore global warming because it is boring?" I wonder if Exxon got their moneys worth from this faux-internet viral clip.
I'm assuming it was designed to be linked to and passed around rightwing blogs, hence the RedState Theater.
dagComment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)
Just to be clear - My vote isn't because I agree with the content. ;-) And Exxon - wow, evil, evil.
I love the term astroturfing in your tags.

joedirtClueless.

So now comes a lame video that portrays Al , Internet Inventor, Gore as a squawking penguin that puts Linux penguins to sleep with his lectures on global climate change. A couple of journalists from the WSJ, who must have boarded the train several cars ago, engaged the guy who posted the video to YouTube, a Mr. Toutsmith, in an email conversation. He refused to say who he was but his email came from a domain registered to DCI Group a Washington DC PR and lobbying firm that represents Exxon!
KrupoAlso voting for dag's reasons.
dotdudeAOL had this article on the clip:

haggissays...Astroturfing. I like it! Must remember to use that word in conversation.
Unlike Krupo and dag, I'm voting because I believe that Exxon-Mobil have the world's best interests at heart, whereas Al Gore is clearly a dangerous charlatan.
joedirtHere's more than you ever wanted to know about this piece of astroturf.

theo47Dear God, that's horrible. Are Republicans bad at everything?
quantumushroomI think Al Gore--a "C" student who originally took Environmental Science classes to avoid hard work--is full of hot air. But this video is indeed lame.
slurpeyatariYes indeed lame. Gore is off his rocker though.
joshdWow. They honestly don't have much respect for the viewers. "Don't worry about global warming, because it's boring to learn about." Unfortunately I think they could be fairly accurate in how much credit they give us.
I'd actually like to think that this is so lame because the people who created it don't agree with it's message. What better way to show that than to accept Exxon's money *and* do a bad job.
CellWallsays...The ending was best for me, I'm a vegan who walks or bikes as much as possible and likes cold showers. I still exhale, though.
No matter the specific content, this video is a sign of bad things to come.
BackgroundBaileyWhat bothers me the most is not that this video was made, or that it was made by someone working for Exxon, but rather the attitude people have against it.
If this video WAS made by an amateur, as it many first suspected, most people would have dismissed it as a harmless spoof, cute at best. Yet because it was made by a company, people are getting upset. This puzzles me because propaganda is propaganda, no matter WHO makes it.
The attitude that this video is somehow sinister because it was sponsored by an oil company puzzles me, because if ACLU or an individual made it, no one would bat an eyelash. Maybe some can explain why everyone is so upset with it.
To me, it was a silly spoof that was trying to make Gore look bad. But really, it's kind of boring compared to funnier videos, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BjrOi4vF24&mode=related&search=
gwaanLame corporate propaganda!
"The attitude that this video is somehow sinister because it was sponsored by an oil company puzzles me" - Why? People don't like the fact that huge corporations, controlled and owned by a few men, can produce videos to brainwash the public so that they will continue to buy the product - making more money for its board of directors at the expense of the planet and everyone else! It's not rocket science.
choggieGore needs no help, he's a walking spoof, a caricature of one who is supposed to know......
FNORDcincosays...Exxon Hates Linux!
