Keith Olbermann Says Goodbye in Last Edition of Countdown

Comcast deal approved, Keith Olbermann shown the door.

I for one don't like the new overlords.
JiggaJonsonsays...

I think the thing I'll miss the most about Olberman is his uncanny ability to relentlessly call people out and do it very articulately. Sure he had the mocking corny voice over too, but he was one of the few commentators who seemed to refuse to dumb down his language.

Well excrement.

While he seems less relevant today than during the Bush era, and the quality of his show seems to have gone down in the last two years, I certainly will miss both the show and Olbermann. Yes, he was pompous at times, but lovably pompous and authentic.

I just hope they aren't going to cut off Rachel next.

Did I say the rhetoric is something that sells and is required? It seems when Olbermann went against the grain, it went against him.

I do not know why he was let go, but I am sure that first part of peace and goodwill over money did not help...

Wonder if Cenk will get his slot.

The new lineup is supposedly:

6pm Cenk Uygur
7pm Chis Matthews (unchanged)
8pm Lawrence O'Donnell
9pm Rachel Maddow (unchanged)
10pm Ed Shultz

Which give us, as someone at Balloon Juice put it, "FDL-style nonsense at 6pm, Beltway Spazz and nonsense at 7pm, Arrogant Insiderism at 8pm, Rachel at 9pm, and Angry Dude at 10pm".

In the short run, I just wanna know about what's happening to Keith because I like the guy, but in the long run I wanna know if MSNBC intends on being a real liberal voice, or just a caricature of liberalism that the media uses to perpetuate false equivalencies with Fox.

Choosing Cenk as their backfill for Keith has me worried they're going for the latter. Give Chris Hayes or Sam Seder a show instead, bitches.

Hey. I like Cenk, or at least the stuff that gets sifted from him.

Should be interesting to see what happens to Matthews & Maddow after this. Guess it depends on whether they're trying to go back to the appearance of objectivity or if they want to keep going as the Anti-FOX. Most news broadcasts have the "appearance of objectivity" as their standard operating proceedure, even though they tend to slant and tilt like anyone else. The problem I have is when they have their supposed "anchors" also doing commentary. The anchors should just report news and keep their mouths shut.

I don't have a problem with liberal or conservative commentary in the news. But there should be a clear distinction between the commentators and the "news". O'Rielly is commentary. Hannity is commentary. Beck is commentary. News & commentary should never be allowed to mix - such as Olbermann being both a news anchor and a commentator.
