Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Trailer

flechettesays...

This does indeed look awesome, but the idea isn't new. Solar Jetman on the NES did this ages ago (but it didn't look NEARLY as good.) I'll definitely be checking this out, since I absolutely loved Solar Jetman.

Asmordeansays...

It looks pretty cool but it also looks pretty hard. Hopefully it's not like those impossible Mario videos you see on youtube.

I do hope it is a PC based but it might be XBox

^WHAT?? (/Lil Jon voice)

You'd have to be a heartless SOB to not appreciate the game's style, scale and the track that was playing as balls-in-a-knot epic and completely effing awesome. Personally, if the in-game soundtrack is anything like this and I get to confirm it beforehand, I'm WAY pre-ordering it (mind you, oftentimes I don't even buy the games I try)

*edit1* Did a little digging - the music is Dimmu Borgir "blood hunger doctrine" and - good news - apparently they're doing the whole soundtrack.

*edit2* Upon several times' repeat viewing I gotta say this is the best trailer for a video game I have ever seen. I can only think of one aspect I could nit pick about, which is the footage near the end. They should have had a single death of the protagonist's ship and that should (and could) have been the more epic than 'death by spikes'. Apart from that, it's shaping up to be the most badass arcade/side-scroller in existence. w00t.

My only concern is that if you look at their blog, it makes it seem like they are still looking for INVESTORS... sounds like we are WAY off from a release...

Sucks, because it looks AWESOME.

BoneyDsays...

I've long thought that with the advances in computer software/hardware/etc. that they should make an old platformer style game (which remains a very playable and entertaining game style) with berserk graphics quality.

Sure, there's been some really great 3D FPSs and third person person games made... but with the reduced requirement on processing for that depth dimension, imagine the possible quality of a sidescrollers we might've seen!

I'm very glad to finally be seeing some of these emerge with something approaching mainstream appeal. I really hope this genre makes a very solid comeback and that games can be judged by more than just their polygon counts.

Draxsays...

I'm with Gunrock, but I've never been too into the side scroller games except for old school Sonic. It's just a matter of taste. Having said that, for what this is it looks very well done. The animation is nice, and I'm not sure if they're using cell shading but if they are it doesn't look anything like EVERY OTHER cell shaded game out there.
