High Speed Police Chase After Bicycle Rider on Freeway (57 secs)

"Well... did he get away or not!?"
From what my sources tell me, he was seen hopping a gate into Sheryl Crow's backyard, but when police arrived she was there alone with her ex-boyfriend, so no one really knows what happened to him.

Why the disbelief?

While I can't comment on the authenticity of this particular video, there is no reason to doubt it. A good roadie can sustain 50km/h on an open and flat stretch of road, and can sprint much faster for shorter distances. While there's no way that a cyclist could outrun a cop car- that's not what we see here. Instead, our hero slips through the gap between a couple of trucks that a car can't fit through. Prior to that the cop was pacing the guy, not being outrun. I actually have to give the cop a certain amount of credit for resisting the temptation to simply nudge the cyclist over- which would certainly have ended the chase right then and there, probably resulting in some nasty injuries to the cyclist.

Obviously an ad for some sort of sports drink. "He seemed to throw some sort of water bottle at the police." I will never vote for one of these faked sports ads, I don't see how anyone can be amused by an impossible feat, rendered in CGI.

it amazes me, how willing people are to jump to the conclusion that something is faked. it's not like he's flying along at breakneck speeds or anything... all of the vehicles you see on the road are slowing down, due to the fact that there are multiple cruisers with their lights on...

there's a way to determine speed, if i'm not mistaken, by timing how quickly he passes the lines on the road.

i can't tell whether the trucker at the end was trying to stop the biker, or help him, but still... if it was a faked sports ad, it wouldn't have been water. he would have thrown a 'gatorade' or something to that effect. not to mention the fact that it certainly wouldn't be associated with outrunning the police, or aired on a news channel.

Look at the cop car - it doesn't loook like a normal cop car, nor does it look like the cop car in the back. This is clearly a segment from Cops of a runaway CAR, with a fake biker added. The truck turning sharply is clearly to stop the runaway car, not runover a bicyclist.
Other proof: the "glitch" in the reception seems way too fake, as well as the biker's last sprint to escape the truck. Impossible to accelerate that quickly.

i guess the red/blue flashers in the back window, and the strobes in the headlights come with every getaway car...

although i will give you the acceleration factor. i've seen some people accelerate VERY quickly on a bike (i live in co. springs near the olympic velodrome) but that's a little iffy for the everyday cyclist. then again, the everyday cyclist wouldn't be trying to getaway on a bike. i'll do some research... this has got to be in the papers *somewhere*...

edit: if this *is* an ad, then i will eat crow. heh.

That's a pretty interesting statement. I really enjoyed every one of those Powerade (I think that was the advertised product) commercials with atheletes performing superhuman feats (like jumping across an open drawbridge, etc). They, like this video, are obviously not real, but are fun to watch for the sole reason that they *look* real. From what you're saying it seems you also wouldn't be able to enjoy a movie like Superman, for instance, because his flying is an impossible feat and only rendered with CGI.

The only *real* telltale evidence hinting that this is not real is the fake video signal interference. It is very obviously a post-processing graphical effect. That's what gave it away to me at least. Otherwise, it does a very good job of making you believe the events are plausible.

I personally think we need a whole section for just ADVERTS. The PR companies are clearly using the internet to push ads to consumers who don't see them on TV anymore, and also create a buzz around this crap before they push it to TV.

I hate ads. Funny, smart, or otherwise. Advertising raises the prices of everything you do, and it is as simple as not watching them and companies will start spending money making good products instead.

I downlaod TV shows so I don't have to see ads, just to encounter them here. Please tag all ads as such. I really think this site need four front pages, one for internet zeigeist, one for tv show & ads, one for music videos, and one for other stuff.

The cop car that is closest to the biker is the actual car being chased. You can see that it's some type of Taurus or something by the shape of the rear end. The white top and blinking lights are completely fake, also they forgot to make the drivers side door white, like the other cop cars have. The biker's body hardly moves at all. It's fake. It's entertaining. That's it!

Thank you rickegee for finding the real source of the video. For people who doubted that it was fake, i jsut dont get it. Cant you guys see that clearly the bike doesnt blend well with the rest of the video? ill never understand.

pho3n1xsays...

k, so i've been corrected.
still though, isn't anyone else sick of people who just assume things to be fake? i guess i like to give things the benefit of the doubt first. ohwell...

funny video anyways...

oohahh, any sifter who's interested in the topic will find that it is a "forgery" by following the conversation and viewing the metacafe link (and perhaps one day soon we'll be able to embed that vid? <grin>).

No evidence that it's an ad for anything, though.

sowatsurpointdudesays...

this video is a fake becux the leading car is shorter than the original cop car behind him. also a trucker wuldnt close on a cop its insane(for the trucker). now a good biker can get to those speeds for a short time but not that long and that distance. each of those wite lones is 7 feet long. and bout 20 ft inbetween. but not all act(comericaials) on powerade/gatorade is fake. ive senn a man make a 40 yd. toss behind his back. and a man make a basket 2 basketball courts away! but this video is definitly a fake. i voted for it any way.
