Fox news is designed to appeal to ignorant people who have no interest in seeking out more intelligent alternatives. If ratings were an accurate gauge of value, PBS's Frontline and NPR's All Things Considered would be tops. The problem is that 'real news' is pretty boring. No exiting graphics, sound effects, patriotic iconography or news tickers.

Report on the self-destructive tendencies of the rich and famous so the average viewer can feel good about themselves or go on ridiculous psychotic rants that play on people's fears and give them a scapegoat for their problems. Fine choices in the ratings war.

Democracy Now is way better than craptastic NPR.
