Gay Conversion stories

Fascinating stories of gay conversion in Australia by Hungry Beast. Warning: not judgemental or sensationalist.

Interesting, when I watched this the other night on TV I actually thought... hmm, this could promote some discussion on VS.

Personally?

I find it horrendously sad that the guy who is now married and has a kid thinks that one day he will stop being attracted to men, and has a wife that believes it too, and has brought a child into a family where the father and mother are so deluded. I find it deeply sad that the older gentleman spent over 20 years on a futile effort to not be gay, but happy that he at last realized he was and there wasn't anything to be done to change it. The other guy is a risk of doing something horrible when he comes to the realisation that he just really is gay.

This is why religion is bad, it takes something that someone once said and then preaches it as an unquestioning truth. You can't ask why it's wrong to be gay, or why you are made that way if you are, you are just wrong to be so.

Deeply, deeply sad.

"Warning: not judgemental or sensationalist."? Hahah! Fuck this phony non-judgmentalism bullshit. The idea that it is somehow ethical and virtuous to abstain from judgment about a thing when clear harm is being caused by it, is a laughable joke. It is a game irrational people play to convince themselves that they are righteous. The opposite is true. These superstitious shits are ruining people's lives and driving kids to suicide. Not only are they worthy of my judgment, they are worthy of my scorn and they are worthy of my ridicule.

Regardless of what you say here, when you're filming a documentary or reporting news, ideally you should just present the facts or the story and let them speak for themselves. I think that's the point @kymbos was after.

Gay and morally good/right? yes. Gay and christian? no. Not in any "real" sense of the term anyway. The only christians I would ever acknowledge are the ones who ACTUALLY believe in that dumb book of theirs. Not cherry pick the thing for whatever nice bits they think are good.

If you want to cherry pick a book for the good parts and leave out the rest, whatever you are, you are not a true believer in that book.

As for being judgmental, I WILL ridicule and be judgmental of these misguided deluded fools who destroy the sense of self in others because of some retarded thousand year old mis-translated horrific tome. BUT the video itself makes an effort to not be judgmental.

Wouldn't "Christian" cover someone who lives their life as they think Christ would if he were alive today?

The tales of Christ's life and teachings are open to interpretation and modern bibles (which, I might add, contain the old testament which is not representative of Christ at all) can't be considered the only source.

To me, that means that yeah, you can be Christian and gay because your interpretation of Christianity may be different to your neighbour's.>> ^RadHazG:

Interesting responses.

When religion advocates abstaining from all sex save between a husband and wife it's just sort of laughed at as an amusing custom. When that extends to abstaining from sex with those of the same sex, suddenly it becomes akin to racism and shouldn't be tolerated.

Before jumping in with the denying who you are by denying what you want, explain how that isn't exactly the same as what is being applied to ALL pre-marital sex and ALL sexual thoughts of anyone but one's spouse? The standards seem to apply pretty consistently, but it only becomes a labeled an existential crisis when it involves the same-sex?

"I think that one day I will reach a point where I'm not sexually attracted to men."
Yeah, dude, it's called death. Good job destroying your life, your wife's life and your children's lives.

I'm sure your well wishes and ceding of the moral high ground are equally appreciated.
