Feeling the Hate in Tel Aviv

The Sequel to the Video YouTube Censored

Max Blumenthal and Jesse Rosenfeld interview young Tel Aviv residents about Iran, Obama and right-wing laws limiting the speech rights of their Palestinian-Israeli neighbors. The shocking responses reflect the deepening of racist and authoritarian trends in Israeli society. This is the sequel to "Feeling the Hate in Jerusalem," the video banned by YouTube, Vimeo and the Huffington Post after topping 400,000 hits.

hmm...party atmosphere + alcohol[presumed] + video camera [with a dash of foreign anonymity] ≠ coherent, intelligent responses

I suspect the outtakes [if any] went to the other extreme, by way of MobMind mentality. No one there looks up to reaching for honest and thorough thought; not about the individual in such an environment. Its more Us vs. Them, and no rationality resides in such a venue. Just listen to the one hesitant being goaded by peers, and he begins to cave in.

It seems this video is only for shock purposes and not about probing the climate of a particular group of people, otherwise more care would have been taken in choosing the context to ask such questions. I cannot see these as true/complete points of view.

Sorry, no upvote.

The 4th Reich is alive and kicking in Jerusalem...

Just for the record, the elected government of Israel is more in line with these idiots than the moderates. The fact that the many Israeli protests over treatment of Palestinians are banned from television is evidence of the government's lent and that these racist fuckstains are not representative of the whole, but are still part of a significant portion of the population.

"To protect democracy, you can't let people protest". George Dubya would be proud.

I think the debate about whether it's representative or not, or tells the whole story or not, is mute.

To me, this video is about the conflict inside every Israeli, and especially every young Israeli, between their ideals for freedom and democracy, and the ugly reality of thier current situation. Whether you think Israel's position is justified or not, this conflict exists within every Israeli.

As for the drunk morons - whatever. It's not a uniquely Israeli condition.

As an American, I take this more to heart than I would the same behavior from any other country because we have so much invested in Israel, monetarily and policy-wise. I might ignore it in many cases, but since I'm enabling this behavior with the US's massive military aid to Isreal, it makes me feel pretty dirty.

Maurusays...

I think it is rather understandable to see these opinions on display in Israel. Both parties in this conflict have been shooting one another for along time and given the fact that just about every young Israeli has served in the army at some point in time or knows somebody who did/does makes it pretty easy to believe a propaganda machine which has been grinding its gears for this long.

Finally, similar views can easily be found on the other side of the table.

Hence, I am not really sure if the logic of "but they should know better" is a sound one, unfortunately it doesn't make watching these videos any less bitter : - (

Most are racist boneheads, but if I was an Israeli security guard in a mall, I would definitely be mindful of any woman wearing a hijab ocr burkah.

at 6:23 - Sadly, as a Swede, I can confirm his statement.

I think most of us understand that these conservative dimwits are not representative of the entire country, but that doesn't mean that these ugly, obviously prevalent lines of thought shouldn't be exposed and confronted. I'm more than happy to see American idiots put through the ringer. Same goes for Israel.
