Game one of a important best of three between Slayers' MMA and EG's Idra in the winners bracket of MLG columbus.
When attempting to kill the rocks blocking the Gold 3rd expansion on Iccup Testbug MMA makes a drastic error and accidentally targets his own command centre with his Siege Tanks. 3 quick volleys later and MMA has destroyed his chances of winning a long game and he realises he must close the game out with his next attack in order to win. As MMA prepares to drop and harass Idra's expansions, Idra makes his move with Banelings and Mutas. Siege tanks quickly mop up the Banelings before they do any damage, but it doesn't look like it'll matter; Idra's Muta count is simply too high. As Idra clears up the last of the marines guarding the tanks MMA's drop at Idras expo has only managed to mop up a queen and a few drones and will surely be cleared out soon enough along with MMAs hopes of taking this game...when Idra abruptly calls GG and disconnects from the game.
The crowd can't believe it, Day and Wheat can't believe it, MMA can't believe it. Idra had him by the jugular but assumes himself not only to not be at a massive advantage, but to be behind enough to concede the game. A game that will surely go down in the history of SC2 and e-sports, two enormous fails, one amazing match.

residuesays...that's what you get for ragequitting
jmzerosays...This would have been a huge shocker if it had been anyone but Idra. He rage-quitted a couple winnable games in the GSL, if I remember right.
Also, Tasteless and Artosis pronounce Idra as EYE-dra. I assume that's the correct way (they both know him well), unless Greg has decreed that the pronunciation is now different (which, who knows, it may be - I haven't been diligently following the scene).
spoco2says...Fuck me, I must be getting old...
MMA?
EG?
winners bracket of MLG columbus?
Gold 3rd exansion on Iccup Testbug MMA?
WTF are you talking about?
gwiz665says...Rage, it's a hell of a drug.
@jmzero it's IHdra as in Idiot by his own account. Tastosis got it wrong.
Psychologicsays...I don't think that was a rage-quit. Idra rarely ever says "gg" if he thinks the loss was BS. He thought MMA was ahead and called the game.
Huk's hallucinated Voidrays... that was an Idra rage-quit.

EG is Idra's team's name, and MMA was his opponent. Testbug was the map name, and I think Iccup was the version of the map (there are custom versions of maps for many competitions).
MLG = Major League Gaming... it's a big competition featuring multiple games (Halo, Starcraft, etc). Columbus was the city in which this one was held.
"Expansion" in Starcraft is when you build a new base at another mineral/gas source for additional income, and "gold" minerals provide faster income per harvester than standard minerals.
You may already know some of that, but I figured others may be curious too.
spoco2says...@Psychologic I didn't actually want an explanation, it was more that the description is gobbledegook to anyone not involved with StarCraft or online gaming like that.
Enzobluesays...Husky's review
enonsays...@Psychologic thanks, that was helpful
Jinxsays...Oh, and yeah, Eyedra is the wrong pronounciation. Artosis has a habit of scrambling peoples Ids, just ask LiquidTyler
The followup to this game is that Idra then lost the next game, and then lost 4 in a row in the losers bracket to his rival MC. Having been 4-0'd you'd think he'd find the humility to lose graciously, but nope, complaining about race imbalance to the last. Its sad, even though Idra is one of, if not the strongest player outside Korea he is considered a joke because of his attitude.
For those that play SC but don't really follow the competitive side that much, I URGE you to watch the next MLG when it comes around at the end of July. The atmosphere at this event was electric, you can hear the crowd on this video, and it made the whole thing quite amazing to spectate. Normally I can't stomach more than a hour or two of watching other people play videogames, but I spend the entire day watching MLG, so yeah, check it out. If you don't play SC then yeah, it prolly is just confusing and uninteresting...so go buy Starcraft2 and join the club
gwiz665says...I'd hardly say he is a joke. He's still a formidable player, if he gets his emotions more in check, he would be even better. He calls games quick, and often right (if you've seen his guest casts on NASL), but when he calls it wrong he should spend some time verifying it and stick with it like SlayerS_BoxeR does.

But it was also right after he lost all his banelings, and he always seems to rage right after he loses banelings. Regardless, I hate that prick, so this outcome was pretty glorious.

And soccer clips have "gobbledegook" descriptions to anyone who doesn't follow footy. And hocky vids, and cricket vids, etc., etc.
Judging by the comments and upvotes, there are plenty here who follow gaming competitions.

If immature is being passionate about something then I guess I'm immature... Ok, Starcraft is a videogame, but then Chess is a boardgame and I doubt you'd accuse them of being immature.
To be fair though, Idra little stunt is hardly the best argument for maturity in gaming
