BoneRemakesays...She gets to see how extreme he can be with his emotions.

And you can't blame him either. This part for me was all about him acting on instinct, he kisses her for the first time, the sense of protection he has for her overwhelms and consumes him and causes him to annihilate this threat to her. Fucking great scene!
alien_conceptsays...For the only time in fact... isn't it? Christ I only watched it a couple of weeks ago.

That is exactly what I thought as well, but I watched it again and noticed how she was before the ride and how they looked at each other at the end. Just finishing it again for the many something time.
BoneRemakesays...The music and lighting play a big role in this as well.
Hybridsays...Great scene, but this is not from the final cut of the film. In this clip, the music playing when they are kissing is Brian Eno's "An Ending (Ascent)". That certainly wasn't the track when I saw it in the cinema. However the version shown at the Cannes Film Festival did have a placeholder soundtrack, before Cliff Martinez was brought in to do the final score. So this clip is probably taken from that version.
Ace film!
