My dog is 9 years old and doesn't really understand "here". My cat is 14 weeks old and has understood it for a month now.

Cats can be trained. Some dogs can not.

I taught my cat to claw at the furniture and now he's a master at it. And he also knows how to come to me on command whenever I open a can of his food. He also learned how to pee and poo in a box of sand and he even covers it up (sometimes).

Just study it out.
