Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat

A good tale of why to pay attention on the water.

Seriously... are we to take from this video that the speedboaters are entirely at fault? Any logical person might have assumed they were looking at the party boat... that's what people at sea do. Fucking idiot coast guard!

They had every opportunity to evade; fucking cowboys. If there were any justice the skipper would be up on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Unfortunately sheep look up. And police, military, or quasi-military, operate within a cloak of near-immunity.

CG on an emergency call always has the right of way. If a firetruck ran a redlight and hit somebody would you call the firemen dicks? A Coast Guard craft at 3/4 throttle with gumballs spinning isn't exactly subtle.

Are you fucking kidding me? You don't think that that little fucking speedboat is at fault here? I'm just going to assume that you are joking so I don't have to think so little of you people. How fucking hard is it to see a big ass Coast Guard boat and pull back on the throttle? It's not hard! Conversely the pilot of the Coast Guard boat probably didn't have nearly as good of a view as the completely open view of the speedboat.

But whatever. I'm drunk. You think what you have to think.

I was being sacastic. It's true that the Coast Guard has the right of was in any invocation, same as an ambulance, police and fire. it's not hard to see that they warned them and should have paid attention on the water.

In many states, there are no age or educational requirements to operate a watercraft. This is a serious flaw. Also, boaters don't treat operating a watercraft as serious as operating an automobile with regard to alcohol consumption. I know, people are shitfaced all the time driving, but it's worse on the water. Where I live, I have direct access to an intercostal waterway. I have seen many scary things and have, on a few occasions, not used the best judgement. Fortunately, I have had not been involved in any incidents. There are alot of crafts out there moving really fast and you have to pay attention much more than when driving. Crafts can come from any direction and not everyone is thinking defensively.

I would say that regardless of "The right of way", the CG is at fault here also. They obviously knew about the other craft and not take any defensive actions.

The small boat should have been looking. However, the Coastguard has no excuse since he did see them coming. It would have been so easy for the CG to avoid the collision and it wouldn't have slowed him down even a second. The fact that he had the arrogance to risk the lives of those in the other boat just so he could be right about it it disgusting. Secondly, if he was on the way to an emergency he's cost a lot of time by hitting the other boat. I think this is a case of forget who is technically right and wrong and look at the problems caused by the coast guard not responding.

As an experienced water user I'm used to people doing silly things. However, I avoid them when I can and grumble later. I don't try to kill them. The driver of the coast guard boat should be experienced enough to be able to rise above the other boat's silliness and do the right thing.

One last think, the coastguard was trying to shout at the other boat. Just how loud does he think he can shout!
