I always preferred getting poisoned by HC (hexachloroethane) than molten by RP/WP (red/white phosphorous). Then again, it was quite a show when half our training ground was on fire after someone fired six charges of RP on a dry field.

Phosphorus reacts more violently in water than air. Even a normal fire extinguisher won't put it out permanently. You have to smother it, and keep it smothered (or in a vacuum).

My question is - if Israel is using it for illumination, why are most of the video clips of them using it in daylight?

And I agree with him, there has to be much more effective smoke screens. Unless you are measuring effectiveness by lethality...

Fucking wow. I have read about and been disgusted by phosphorus grenades, but those are a freaking close combat weapon. Practically humane compared to what is apparently happening here. The idea of firing that shit into cities in the warhead of a rocket just blows my fucking mind, how can they possible justify this to themselves? I just feel sick.

I don't really know what they're going on about there - I can't remember the specific nomenclature of the round - I haven't touched one in a couple of years. But the ONLY two WP shells we have are the "tall boy" and "short boy". The tall one is the M825, which judging from pictures is exactly what they've been using. Yes, that round does produce an incendiary effect, but in no way is that it's main purpose. Those rounds exist for smoke screening.

The short boy, on the other hand, is meant for incendiary purposes. The short boy is the one I linked to and either they're confused - using old data - or I'm linking to the wrong round.
