VoodooVwhat's frustrating is that the symptoms of a heart attack and gas/acid reflux are so similar.
As someone who has had to deal with acid reflux, even though it's not life threatening...it's FUCKING SCARY BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU ARE HAVING A HEART ATTACK!
rottenseedVery effective. The only problem, as @VoodooV mentioned, the symptoms are very similar to other non-life-threatening conditions. It's only natural to not want to run into the embarrassing scenario of crying wolf. Also, those in the medical profession often tend to make you feel stupid for "overreacting". Also, from what I understand about women's heart attacks is that they're not as immediately debilitating as in men's heart attacks. This might seem like a good thing, but the longer you go without treatment, the more irreparable damage is being done to the heart.
braindonutsays...First time I ever had acid reflux, I totally thought I was having a heart attack. And now I have it rather frequently... sometimes I wonder if I'd be able to tell the difference.
EDIT:
When I was in the emergency room, thinking I was about to die (after being sent there from a redi-care) they did giggle and give me some strong ass antacid. Problem immediately went away and I felt like a schmuck.

probieFunny, if Elizabeth Banks were my wife, it wouldn't be laundry she'd be doing first thing in the morning.

I'm definitely not a doctor and I'm probably not saying anything you haven't heard before, but; if you're getting acid reflux often, a bit of a diet change and some weight loss could do wonders. This is purely from my own experience of developing a near reliance on antacids for get through the day and night; to then eating less and losing 45 lbs.; to not having had an antacid for several months now.
Obviously I have no idea of your fitness levels, but I don't think it's too crass to assume that a lot of the people here on Videosift are probably in the same likes-to-sit-a-lot crowd that I'm part of.
