Awesome Asteroid Impact Simulation Set to Pink Floyd

Thanks to the discovery channel (miracle earth) and pink floyd - great gig in the sky.

"The evidence says this has happen at least 6 times in Earth's history" Really? Woah, hope I'm not around for the next one...

That would be pretty lonely, don't you think? That's why, when people ask me if I could have one wish, I never choose being immortal. Not being able to die would suck in a scenario such as this one. I always answer that I'd want to be mortal, but stop aging + awesome self-healing powers. That way you could live forever, if you were smart, which I happen to be.

That is why you need 2 wishes. To be imortal, and someone else to be importal with you.

Miracle Earth is a fantastic program. I saw this animation there but with Pink Floyd, it's even scarier.

Game over!

They go on to say that life persisted deep underground where the temperature and conditions remained habitable during this ordeal. These bacteria eventually emerged and evolved into life as we know it.

It's unlikely that a 500km asteroid will collide with Earth again as the orbital plane has been cleared out over the past several billion years but anything is possible. It's more likely that we'll be struck by a much smaller asteroid. But even then, life will be in peril.

Clare Torry for the win. Also, she made those vocals up as she went, which led to her later being able to sue for co-authorship (with Wright), so i guess technically it's not just a Pink Floyd song. Could she be added to the tags?

She was also unaware of how amazing her performance was when they recorded it. She came out of the booth and apologized. Just goes to show, you are not always a good judge of your own work.

In regards to the asteroid, videos like this make me want to start making Vaults around the world. Of course, Lunar and Mars colonization would be good too. It freaks me out to know that every living thing we know of could still be wiped out if the Earth was in the wrong place at the wrong time. We need to have some backups.
