Population Control - Humanity is overrunning the planet!
"Overpopulation occurs when a population's density exceeds the capacity of the environment to supply the health requirements for the individuals"
lore_weaversays...

Overpopulation is a myth. Things like Organic Farming and "Green lifestyle" do more to lower the capacity our planet has for humans.

Environmentalist Fanatics cite overpopulation as one of the biggest issues we face, when they start using 20 times the amount of land it would take to produce the same amount of "normal" food.

Also, while Nuclear power may strictly be "non-renewable" it's going to be a long while before we run out of uranium, and switching to Nuclear would be safer than our existing energy, and allow us to turn off Coal and Oil power sources.

@lore_weaver: You've been lied to. I personally know organic farmers who significantly out-produce conventional farms. And if you really think overpopulation is a myth, take a plane ride — pretty much anywhere you look on the planet's surface has been cleared for human use. Those of us who care about nature tend to believe that we should give it some space too.

What arvana said above + I would recommend the documentary Home for people who want to see how much we have changed the world.

Don't get me wrong... I think she's right. It might not be a problem I'll see in my lifetime, but overpopulation can definitely be a problem.

And yes, she is beautiful as well as intelligent, I'd love to spend my life with someone like her without ever having the goal of procreating. >> ^lore_weaver:

I want her to not have my babies.

Oh, and this. QFT.
Just because she's hawt and has a seksy accent, doesn't make her right

Overpopulation is not a myth; it is a very real and obvious fact.

And I am always suspect of someone who bashes environmentalists in one breath, and turns around to defend nuclear power--probably the dirtiest and most dangerous forms of power in existence--in the next breath.

Wasn't it the environmentalists who stood opposed to off-shore drilling?

Wasn't it the conservatives like Sarah Palin and John McCain who chanted "drill baby drill?"

Is that a myth, too?

This is a unique discussion, because the solution is so self evident. Anyone who believes that overpopulation is a real problem, and behaves according to that belief, will remove themselves from the gene pool. Those who believe that overpopulation is a myth will quite literally rule the world. It is inevitable: the myth is self refuting.

Evolution has spoken. And if your not into evolution, go read Genesis 1:28.

Oh, and for a 'common sense' test, just drive through the country side. Though you may think that "'most' of the planet has been 'cleared' for human use" (is a golf course overpopulation?), consider the vast stretches of land that is not being used for food production or habitation. Also consider the massive amount of land that is 'lawn'. I mean for crying out loud, how the hell can the world be even close to over populated when you've got so much freaking space so close to home that is SO USELESS. Dig up your lawn and plant a GARDEN if you think the world is overpopulated. Oh, but no, the only solution is to convince others that they shouldn't procreate, or pass some law, or something. Give me a break.

Hurray for the overpopulation myth. Lets all adopt a one child policy, and follow China into a bright new future.

^ Oh, how deep.

And if you don't like air pollution, just stop breathing.

Oil spills are natural occurrences.

Climate change believers are just out to make a buck.

Wrong....organic farming DOES NOT PRODUCE MORE. It produces smaller and in less quantities. We live in a capitalist market economy. The reason why organic farming isnt our standard method of production is specifically becausee it doesnt produce as much. And....it does require more land usage. If it were the more efficient way to produce then that would be the chief method of production.

Industrialized agriculture, and the like, may well be an enabler for massive population growth. However this growth is entirely unsustainable over the long term (100 years+) - a fact which will rapidly become evident over the next few decades.

The 'Green Lifestyle' raises the capacity for our planet to support a healthy, happy population over an extended period of time.

The antithesis relies on an ever increasing population to sustain itself - not necessarily a bad thing - but it is a flight towards a brick wall - that wall being the limits of the Earth's resources.

By the way, the 'Green Lifestyle' is a combination of numerous approaches. Your failure to appreciate this bigger picture is why your argument stinks. For example, ignoring costs and dangers, yes, nuclear power is very powerful and we could get a lot more power if we switched everything over to nuclear. However, you don't mention one of the fundamental tenants of mainstream environmentalism, which is that we shouldn't need this extra power in the first place if we lived and worked smarter.
