Are Christians the New Persecuted?

YT comment: "Now you now what atheists, gays and minorities feel like."

December 2010 on Channel 4 with Nicky Rawlins, Bishop Nick Baines, Gary MacFarlane, Peter Tatchell, Andrea Williams, Bishop Michael Nazir Ali, and Anjem Choudary.

The rise of aggressive secularism and radical Islam has left many Christians feeling under attack and unable to express their faith. Do Christians really face abuse and discrimination? Or are they just struggling to adjust to multi-faith Britain?

Who would use this freak as a sex therapist, he sounds like a PSYCHO.

Gave up watching half way through. What a bunch of pathetic idiots.

Christians have been doing this against every other religion or non-religion for centuries. The is just karma coming back on them.

While I don't condone harassment or violence toward anyone, Christians always have this massive chip on their shoulder. The are offended by everything, set off by the slightest opinion that goes against theirs and are easily the most judgmental group I have ever known.

Are you trying to prove their point? This is needlessly rude. >> ^billpayer:

Nicky Rawlins: I feel like some part of this story is missing. Regardless, she probably didn't deserve the treatment she received.

Bishop Nick Baines: Bravo, Sir.

Gary MacFarlane: He seems to think he should be able to discriminate without being discriminated against, and that he should be able to refuse to do his job without being fired. I'd like to ask him to explain why he should get such preferential treatment.

Peter Tatchell: He takes the words right out of my mouth.

Andrea Williams: "Waaah! People are allowed to make fun of Jesus!" Another one who is offended that everyone else isn't a Christian. How dare they have different beliefs than you and, furthermore, have the gall to express them.

Bishop Michael Nazir Ali: I agree that someone being made to leave their home over their religion is persecution. The rest of his words are nonsense.

Anjem Choudary: Muslims probably far are more persecuted than Christians, but you can't move to a country which has laws that are opposed to your beliefs and then whine about it. If you want Sharia, go live in a country that has Sharia.

I'd say that the sex therapist is homophobic. I mean if he can't give advice to gay couples because of his religion, that sounds like he is doing a bit of persecuting himself. And this isn't even getting into the subject of gay marriage, just couples.

Secular liberal humanism and radical Islam tolerate each other? HA!

Samples from *MY* Bible:

"...you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake." Matthew 24:8
"...all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution." 2 Timothy 12:10
"...they will lay their hands on you and persecute you..." Luke 21:12
"Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you." 1 john 3:13

Christians have always, and will always be persecuted. It's part of the deal. Get over it.

But more importantly, those lazy fucks talking about having their feelings hurt need to wake up and realize that they have a good schtick going on. Western society in the few hundred years is the only culture in the history of the world to have tolerated Christianity the way they do. In almost every other area of the world Christians are being ostracized from society or killed for their faith.

Stupid British Lady: "They throw eggs at my house and call me a Bible-thumper! *sob*"
Chinese Dude: "Oh cool. In my country the government tortures us and kills us and stuff."

Choudary: "Islam cannot survive in a secular society". Well I was in Leicester, UK in August of 2009 and I could see thousands of Muslims surviving just fine. Now why don't you pretend for a while that you're Atheist and go espouse publicly atheist thoughts and ideas in Saudi Arabia and see how well you survive.

Religious people deserve our compassion -- as does anyone else who struggles with mental illness.

I liked this alot. It was well done with a good dialogue.
Wish this played in the United States.

While I agree with freedom of speech, I believe all religions should be ridiculed evenly, no one should be singled out.

Yes! More extreme close ups of big meaty faces while scripted nonsense continues to stream out of their whiny hypocritical cake holes! Please, be more obvious in your baseless depictions of human fragility!!

"I have a book called the Bible." Never heard of it.

But Christians aren't persecuted. At the very worst, they have to suffer juvenile insults on the internet. They have all their civil rights intact, and there is no growing trend (that I know of) of hate crimes targeting Christians. I think they are mistaking persecution for criticism, because they aren't used to it. It has only recently become acceptable to question religion in public. >> ^blankfist:

I have to admit, it kind of feels good to see the shoe on the other foot.

SDGundamXsays...

The answer is "No. Their hegemony in Western society is declining and that makes some of them uncomfortable to the point of paranoia."

I do think, though, that civility is a good thing. You can disagree with people's ideas without insulting the people themselves. It's just that it's easier (and let's face it--more gratifying) to attack the person than it is to actually take the time to form and express a reasonable argument (or listen to what the other person has to say, for that matter).

The problem with that is that almost no one changes their mind because they've been insulted. You actually get the opposite effect--the insulted person becomes even more entrenched that they are "right" and the other person is "wrong," to the point that they no longer listen to what their opponent is saying, even when what their opponent is saying makes sense.
