Oh, they were playing, they just definitely weren't amped. An unmic'd acoustic playing with some distortion on it during the chorus? Not a chance.

The english version is not a direct translation. The first french stanza sounds to me more like:

But when I bathe, I put my legs up on the wall over the faucet (but I'm too tall to fit into a normal bath).
