The thing that really bums me out about all this talk is that it looks like the only people that end up being doctors in the future will be people that actually want to help those in need, and not make a ton of cash. From what I heard Grumman was pretty proud of their original design and had convinced NASA to bust the Apollo lander out of the Air & Space Museum and use it for the next trip to the moon, but then some wiseguy said "AYFKM?!" and so they hired one of the most talented game developers on the planet to design a new one. I don't get it, personally, but I hope Carmack is able to leapfrog this achievement directly into the Oval Office.

Anyone with any knowledge of the state of the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, prior to the beginning of the second Gulf War knows that Saddam's original possession of WMDs had absolutely nothing to do with our decision to invade Iraq. It was offered as possible cover (they figured maybe he hadn't managed to sell them all to Syria quite yet), because the true motivation for the invasion was not the kind of thing you talk about in public. Reading enough to connect the dots between the first Gulf War, Ab Qaiq, and why we were attacked by Saudis on 9/11 should help you to develop a better understanding of what we're really doing in the Middle East.

Do you honestly think this guy or those like him were sitting on the sidelines while Bush was eliminating habeas corpus, or blowing our national wad in the Middle East? Who are "they" anyway? Are you assuming this guy's a republican because he believes in the Second Amendment?

I absolutely agree with this guy's statement: exercise your rights or you'll lose them, simply because it's virtually impossible to reclaim power from the government once it's been surrendered. In my current home state – Wisconsin – bringing a gun to a presidential rally would certainly be excessive, but I'm more concerned about the guns I don't see (and there are far more than you might think).

I'm not sure how many former Ultima Online (UO) players are in the audience (and will know what I mean), but that game and the experiences I had with it set the bar too high for any subsequent ORPG to reach (imho).

By way of background, UO was player-killer (PK) friendly everywhere except for cities (you could still kill people in cities, but the guards would come after you) and if you died, your corpse (along with everything you were carrying (which could have taken you months to acquire)) sat on the ground ripe for the picking until you could run back to it in ghost form from the nearest rez point. What that resulted in was bringing real emotion into the game with you. Running for your life from a guy intent on ending it actually felt a bit like running for your life. It was great!

I’ll never forget the time I happened across a ship that had been left unlocked, right next to the keep belonging to the Mercs (the most notorious PK guild on my shard). After waiting in the woods for a good 20 minutes (mainly to build up my nerve), I ran onto the boat, grabbed a ton of loot from the hold (these guys were loaded) and took off running, right as at least a dozen black-robed plate-armored Mercs came pouring out of their castle. The ensuing pursuit, not to mention the potential haul (I’d managed to grab more high-end gear and stuff than I would have earned by myself in 6 months of playing) made for one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had with a video game.

Newer ORPGs certainly have a lot going for them, but I don’t think they’ll ever give me butterflies in my stomach again.

One of the things I'll happily grant the atheists in the crowd: once we've outpaced the vestiges of our societal Judeo-Christian imprinting it'll be quite easy to justify "disappearing" imbeciles like this guy for the betterment of all mankind.
