a screen of any kind would reduce and distort airflow to the turbine. it's a calculated risk and they test these things by shooting birds through them to prevent flameout of the engine by bird strike. not human strike.

in short, the protection against being pulled into the intake is to duck, and he didn't. i'm glad he's okay, but he's right, he shouldn't have gone into the check standing as high as he did.

You can have LCARS on your home pc from LCARSx32.com but it hasn't been worked on actively since 2008.

That said, it works pretty well for what it is. And it reacts to voice commands...

I'm still waiting on a full LCARS OS though. that would be slick, and I hope this guy opens up the source for his project, cause this is right up my alley.
