i don't need to respect them when interests converge. >> ^gwiz665:

lulzsec are not politically based like anonymous, it's just bored people who want to hack left and right. They don't deserve respect, they deserve scorn.
Anonymous does deserve some respect though, I think.

Cenk Uygur On Why He Is Leaving MSNBC

peggedbea says...

As a tool of the establishment, MSNBC has blood on their hands.
Americans are entirely held hostage to this bullshit information vaccuum that is supposed to be the 4th estate. it's only role is to divide, placate, lie to us and sell us shit.
the public needs to hear how they operate.

this comment is a perfect example of what they want you to think. it's why they allow children to grow up thinking "ill just keep my head down and shut up and these other kids won't make fun of me anymore".
>> ^critical_d:

Anyone who considers themselves a tiger so aren't. I also think that bitching about a former employer in public is a bit tasteless. Ok,if your former boss has 4 bodies in the freezer then feel free to vent out loud. He tries a little too hard in proving his point and that seems odd.

Abortions Currently Not Legally Available in Kansas

peggedbea says...

this is how you decrease the number of abortions:

1. free comprehensive, scientifically sound, sex education to all
2. readily available, easily accessible, very affordable, guilt-free access to contraception in every community
3. counseling
4. streamline the adoption process to make it an actual option to EVERY sane, loving adult with the means to care for a child. i'd adopt a 3rd baby in a heart beat if it didn't cost $40k and they let single women of modest income do it. i have the means to support another child, but i don't have $40k laying around.
5. make health care a right
6. revisit public policies that actually alleviate poverty
7. equal pay for women
8. make legitimate vocational schools as affordable as community college and/or offer more grant-eligible vocational programs within community colleges... i know from experience that learning a trade can offer as much opportunity for single mothers as it can for any young man.

guess how many of these abortion-preventing solutions planned parenthood has a hand in???

Abortions Currently Not Legally Available in Kansas

peggedbea says...

i posted a sift talk about this after i attended a planned parenthood rally a while back. there are some who, as individuals, view the debate as life and death. i understand that. and i respect it. if i thought that was actually what the pro-life movement was about, i might be behind it. like sdxgundam, i also oppose abortion on moral grounds. but a pro-life movement must be 100% pro-life. at every stage of life. and i haven't seen evidence that it is.

it's not about that though. the movement as a whole and the powerful men in legislative positions or behind an alter that stoke the fires of the pro-life movement seek one thing, control. it's about controlling women and their sexuality. because history has been sooo very very threatened by female sexual power.

it's about distraction because if you can have one group yelling at the other group about something so passionately, that on the grand scale of global issues doesn't really even weigh in.. then you can keep them from yelling about the mass murder and theft that is committed every single day.

banning abortion does not save lives. it does not stop unwanted pregnancies. it does end rape or incest or poverty or unprotected sex or hormonal teenagers making impulsive decisions or desperation or suffering or medical emergencies or child abuse or spousal abuse. it doesn't even end abortion.

it pushes to back alley clinics and kitchen tables where unsanitary conditions threaten the lives of both mother and child. >> ^GeeSussFreeK:

And yet Republicans claim that it is the Democrats who want to control how people live their lives and that they are for freedom... despite the Republicans being the party to control who people can marry, want to control woman's rights, they are the party that want to keep the drug war going far more so than the other, they are the ones behind the Patriot Act... about the only right they seem to be ahead of the Democrats on is gun control.

While I most agree with this, nearly completely, those against abortion equate it to murder...something government is most assuredly involved in. I find the debate on abortion good, in a way. One side is valuing life, the other liberty...both of the things that make this union great. I kind of wish people would see it like that instead of each side as the devil.

i definitely want something faster to access than a laptop, ill get phone calls from people who want appointments while im shopping for groceries or picking my kids up from camp, i want to be able to open the calendar app quickly and book an appointment. also when im checking clients out at my wellness center and i have to wait for 3 other people who work out of there to check out their clients before i can use the comp to check my client out and see my schedule to book their next appointment.... and i see a laptop being too bulky to set on a dresser and play ambient music during sessions.

and gaahhh the ridiculousness of CD's that get lost, or scratched or borrowed (i don't mind sharing, it's just that they always seem to return scratched)... so sure i could get an ipod, but id rather just buy one gadget to take care of everything...

also, sometimes at night when i'm closing up or batching out or whatever i like to sit in the floor and figure out what stock i have/need, how much money i have/owe/made that day, what percentage of it i want to reinvest and what new equipment i'd like to get when its time... instead of doing that with tons of tiny pieces of paper and my shitty memory to rely on, i think a tablet in my lap with my bank accounts and quick books and schedule and the websites of my suppliers on it would minimize my time at work.

im so ridiculously right brained i have to work super hard to stay organized and on top of my business so i don't revert to my ways of winging it on the fly and crash my business into the ground or get so stressed out by all the psychic clutter that i burn it all down catharticly

also, how reliable is it in terms of memory? am i going to overload it making it play music and book appointments all day? is it going to crash in the middle of my last session and force me to pull out the 1990's technology?

Laptops are just so damn cheap these days, it's true - and generally a lot more functionality than a tablet.
The benefit of a tablet over a laptop for me are two things:
1. Form factor - I can take it to bed and read it like a book, whip it out on the bus - or in economy class seats on a plane - with a lot less fuss than a laptop.
2. Quickness - I don't mean processor speed, I mean just getting to a bit of functionality that I need at that moment. If I want to open a calendar app on a laptop, I need to open up the laptop, wait for it to unhibernate- hunt for the app and then wait for it to launch. About a minute to do that. Versus about 10 seconds on tablet.

so this is a google tablet... half the price of an ipad.. rad.
does it do what i need it to do?
seriously, i ask you guys because the lay out of amazon and other sites like it drives my dyslexia/dyscalculia CRAZY. my brain thinks im trying to decipher hieroglyphics. >> ^KnivesOut:

I bought a Nook Color, and rooted it, which for non-nerds means I replaced the Barnes & Noble default OS with a standard Android ROM. This means I can load regular 'droid apps on it, by accessing the Amazon App-Store and Android Market.
Why? Because it was only $250, compared to the $500+ for an iPad. Yes, it's not as "nice" as an iPad, but:
A. I hate apple.
B. I like saving money.
C. Droid is cooler, and easier to code against than iOS, but that's just my opinion.
There are other options in a similar price range (this one is pretty nice.)
I just have a hard time with the $500 price-point on an iPad.
