Frogs in Boiling Water - the Psychology of Global Warming
Phew, I can still keep eating puppies. I love eating puppies.
Curious property of Prince Rupert's Drop glass
cool, similar to how tempered glass works in most car windshields, most small cracks will be closed back up by the surface (in compression) but if a large enough crack forms (someone breaks the glass) it shatters into thousands of pieces.
How It's Made: Glass Bottles.
manufacturing and recycling may have less of an environmental impact than other packaging options, but looking at the entire life cycle of the product you have to realize that there are more stages to the overall life cycle of the product. consider how much more energy is wasted transporting the bottles (full of their product or empty ones to the recycling plant), since they are more fragile and weigh more than their plastic counterpart much more energy goes into transport.
Im not saying it's less environmentally friendly, but people need to look at the big picture instead of saying 'my prius uses less gas than your hummer.'
Fratboy science: Magnesium fire
not 100% sure but from what i remember in chem class you aren't supposed to look at the ... oh wait nvm its in the description ... yea, definitely burned some retinas.
And when you put magnesium in water it releases hydrogen, so that explains the explosions when the retards sprayed water on it.
The Latest Unified Theory of Everything using the E8 Lattice
Im still reading through the paper (have to catch up on some lie algebra first) but the rotation is significant because it can help you (somewhat) to visualize the different projections onto lower dimensions which describe the effects of different feild forces: gravity + standard model forces.
Although i have to admit im far from understanding any of the actual physics underlying the math, im not too sure about this one. From what i hear, even though it has received some praise, the science community in general hasnt exactly welcomed this guy with open arms. Maybe if this theory helps with research into the Higgs boson, the media will be justified in their hunt for the newest Einstein. Lets not forget, if you read this guy's bio you will see he is very media friendly unlike your typical theoretical physicist locked up in his office, rarely seeing the light of day let alone encountering any human interactions. This one could just be gaining attention for purely superficial reasons, so stay skeptical.
Gigantic Jets (lightning) over Oklahoma
looks fake, someone looking for a research grant perhaps?
Sam Suds and the Case of PVC: The Poison Plastic.
... Paid for by the polyethylene producers of america.
all jokes aside, its the plasticizers, flame retardants and other additives that they add into making PVC and most other polymers that create the toxic fumes. You cant just blame PVC for this, there are other polymers that contain the same toxic chemicals. At least PVC wont burst into flames like its less flame retardant cousin ABS...
...not that im a rep for Big PVC; in fact i think that we should focus more effort into developing non-petroleum based polymers, at this point the technology is there but there it's a relatively new process and thus very expensive to produce (a couple of bucks a pound vs. a few cents a pound for the stuff your water bottle is made of) plus plastics made from organic compounds are *GASP* biodegradable.
Infinitely Variable Gearbox For Bikes
that doesn't look very good, the only thing i can picture is alot of vibration at higher speeds. any mechanical engineer should know about continuously variable belt and traction drives, not quite infinitely variable, but it does the job alright.
i would post some links but i couldnt find any
Transparent Egg Shell
im guessing the vinegar dissolves the shell and all that is left is the membrane inside the shell
Could using a LCD, delay what you see on the screen by 1/20s
Problems could be as simple as one of the cables he uses is longer than the other. Ever been to a concert with bad audio hookup and the speakers in the back are out of sync with the stage speakers? some thing pretty much.
D-Day, The Lost Evidence
Thanks to pho3n1x for the playlist, the links are still there if you dont like the shrunk screen
