That these come from a society of arts surprises me not. Having studied art at the University of Fine Arts, the lightness on facts and analysis and heavy on the self-righteous and judgmental brings me back to the kind of simplistic discussions that we were encouraged to pursue in the Uni (as long as, you know, you cover everything with a shiny coat of complicated words or nice pictures - can't have anyone going around exposing our hypocrisy by making sense).

Art has divorced itself from reality since post-modernism, perhaps even before. The argument made here that enlightenment ideals have failed and we need some new bogus spiritual (and I'm using the word in a broad sense, not talking just about religious spirituality) way of looking at the world just sounds to me like a perfect way to plunge the world into a new dark age of thought.

Enlightenment didn't fail, it was corroded over time by the usual suspects - greed, ignorance, selfishness. It doesn't need replacement, it needs renewing. "Every generation needs its own revolution" because conditions and forces on the terrain are always changing, but the ideals of reason and progress, have no doubt, are eternal and the only tools that can save the naked ape. Lazy thinking bestows us no miracles.

I think I saw something related on the sift a while ago. This is Hatsune Miku, a J-Pop celebrity with the added feature of being completely artificial. The song on the video is a fruit drinking version of this one.

And yes, this is all terrible. I'm sure music biz execs worldwide creamed their pants when they first saw her. Just imagine the potential! All the shitty easy to digest music you can feed the unwashed masses with a teen popstar that never ages and will never give you any crap about her "rights" or any other human emotions. She can't even lose her soul when she shills for fruit juice, for she has none to lose!

This is so awesome. Crows are incredibly smart: they pass the mirror test, use abstract intelligence to create tools on the spot for specific problems, can even distinguish between different humans and are some of the few birds know to engage in playful just-for-fun activities. All these things indicate we must keep an eye on them as possible usurpers of the mammalian world order.

One is a very serious and devastating crime, the other is not a crime at all and merely embarrassing. Either the people accusing him have done something horrible, or he has done something horrible. But since he hasn't been legally accused or any evidence offered, for the time being you have to presume he's innocent.


Of course, but you missed my point. Obviously I wasn't saying that rape is a-ok. I'm saying that the accusations against Assange are derived from the knowledge that if you smear someone's private life, you deflect heat from the real problems. What better way to do that than with the A-bomb of accusations, rape. The only thing better would be to accuse him of being a pedophile (give it time). And as you said yourself, there is no evidence of anything. Its just a wild accusation being shouted a lot and very loud. The bigger the lie, a lie told a thousand times, etc. (Dammit, my second Godwin on this thread).

I also seem to recall that an animal-loving vegetarian celibate (sorry for the Godwin) was one of the crappiest leaders ever. The bottom line is, all of this personal life politics is bullshit. Who the hell cares what leaders do in their personal time? We REALLY should care how we are affected by their political actions, and there is no denying the positive power of Julian's actions, which is why the corporate tards at CNN and the rest are left with no option but play the smear card.

I know some of his other work since like me he is portuguese and I think the same thing about all his stuff. He has a good eye for the technical details but his scripts are always ridiculously maudlin and designed to please the cute cat obsessed multitudes, "Oh, that is so nice and redeeming!"
