The film Money as Debt 2 has a better explanation of the present monetary system.

This film underestimates the difficulty of eliminating all forms of usury, from person to person lending up to national bank lending. Discount rates (the basis of interest) are fundamental to our psychology of the time value of goods.

I was unaware that our paper money in Canada isn't actually printed by the Canadian Mint. It's entirely printed by private companies, including a German company that also prints the Canadian Tire money. Is there anything we can't privatize?

This is perhaps my favourite lecture from Zizek yet. We need thinkers to address the continued erosion of the commons. We need to lift the curtains to show that while terms by which the commons are degraded (finance) are continually made more convoluted, the mechanisms and results are the same as ever.
