This is a great song, and it isn't even my favorite of his. (That would be "Children of Sanchez," a 14-minute piece from the album of the same name.) This is probably the one that had the most commercial success, though. I think Chuck Mangione ranks up there with Carlos Santana as a gifted instrumentalist.

I wonder about the wisdom of turning a private homecoming into a media event. It doesn't seem fair to the kids to turn them into a public spectacle in front of their friends and the world. If he's been home long enough to arrange this elaborate surprise, then why didn't he just skip it and see his family that much sooner?

I read on Wikipedia that they did this video for the 1996 VH1 Fashion Awards (as stated), and a second one for the 1997 VH1 Fashion Awards. I've tried searching for the 1997 version but can't find it. Anyone??

I actually thought it was okay, for the character. I'd rather have him do a passable job, than have them dub it and then be distracted during the entire movie because it doesn't sound like his voice.

My only complaint is that the thumbnail spoils the surprise. Otherwise, great video.

The year the album came out, my parents each bought it for the other for Christmas. Groovy.
