Penn & Teller - King of animal traps (7:45)
Is there a Penn and Teller collective? Does there need to be? I'm a fan, but I think Videosift is reaching a P&T saturation point.
"See you in hell, candy boys!"
This collective pushes so many clips to the top of the queue that I'm careful about upvoting, but I definitely consider this one a classic.
Butterflies in the tummy, during first live news interview
Don't waste too much empathy for the fellow--I know the guys behind this & it was definitely a planned event. Tyrone even had a specific diet for the 8 hours leading up to the show.
I've seen this clip showcased on at least 2 cable television networks. It deserves recognition as a very early example of "viral" video promotion.
It still cracks me up every time.
Three Kings Trailer
This is an incredible and overlooked film from David O. Russell, who has since given us I ♥ Huckabees. I don't think I've ever encountered a more genre-defying movie--it incorporates action, comedy, political thriller, & at times even a certain documentary sensibility. It also has a quiet, thoughtful take on the American psyche in the oft-forgotten period of the first Gulf War.
Souls Of Mischief - [Chill From] 93 'till Infinity
Subtly stunning to see a hip hop video set to wilderness backgrounds. That alone got my attention.
'Thank God I Was Raped'
Not claiming this is a perfect analogy, but it is interesting to note that <a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/05/health/05essa.html?ei=5070&en=81903232a09b6dbc&ex=1175745600&adxnnl=1&adxnnlx=1175594769-bV7FupVW8ZB6ReWGvnLbR
w" title="NYT article about parents purposefully genetically selecting to have disabled children">humans seem to embrace difficulty.
I also don't see the point in actively belittling the Christian perspective in those areas boring or benign -- there's plenty of active hatred to draw attention to. A quick video out of context makes it very easy to feel superior. I fight this tendency in myself, & think that a conversation with these people is necessary if we want to see our world anytime soon.
Errol Morris' First Person: Leaving the Earth (documentary)
Thrilled to see this make it to the front page. I don't think it's too evident in this episode, but Errol Morris designed a strange camera rig specifically for the interviews in this series. The subject seems to be nearly surrounded by cameras, and if I understand right, is never looking at Morris in person, but only at his image on a screen.
Slam - prison yard poem
Speaking of which, he's on tour again right now. I'll be seeing him in St. Louis on the 23rd. Thanks for savin' this one, michie -- it seemed to do the trick.

Thank you much, Krupos. I wasn't sure that upvoting one's own submissions was allowed. All glory to Dr. Katz.

The Ring - Trailer Recut
I agree that Robert Ryang's "The Shining" remains the best of the trailer re-cuts so far.
This one caught my eye for its better-than-usual editing and sense of the trailer as genre. I also think that it's far too easy to re-cut as a horror film, & we're swamped in those, so it's refreshing to see imagination working in the opposite direction.
