TDS: For Fox Sake! - 10/29/09

Honestly, I don't watch much MSNBC, but I'm not sure that they're biased. I can certainly agree that Olbermann is biased. He's basically the opposite of Bill O'Reilly. Rachel Maddow is of course also biased. But then as John Stuart pointed out, MSNBC's morning show is hosted by a conservative. MSNBC is probably overall biased, but they're less than half as biased as Fox News. Fox News has reached the level of insanity.

Scientology Rep. Can't Handle the Heat On Xenu, Storms Out

brain says...

It's interesting to see the reaction of Scientologists when they're asked about this. They almost all deny it publicly. Journalists really shouldn't let them get away with it. It's universally reported to exist by ex-scientologists who have reached the training level, it's come up in public court documents, and it's seen in copies of L Ron Hubbard's notes.

In the past, the Scientology celebrity center had a nice african women as a public spokesperson. She would deny all the claims about Xenu whenever she was asked about it. But someone eventually figured out that she was not even at the training level of operating thetan. You only learn about Xenu at operating thetan level 3. So sometimes even their public speakers don't really know anything about the church.

In Tommy Davis's case, I'm pretty sure he knows about Xenu. According to wikipedia, he's both denied it in the past, and also referenced Xenu's existence.

It took me a while to figure out they were talking about ACORN. Here's my take on the ACORN thing. I have no idea what everyone is complaining about. Usually people just refer to it as "the ACORN controversy" without giving any clue as to what they're complaining about. So far, this is all that I'm aware of:

1. ACORN paid their employees to register voters. Some people defrauded ACORN and turned it fake voter registration cards.
2. Republicans dressed up in funny outfits and played the part of a hooker and a pimp and received tax advice from ACORN. They employees were fired.
3. Republicans dressed up in funny outfits and got one ACORN employee to tell them a fake story about killing her husband (who is still alive).
4. ACORN is going to be Obama's citizen army or something?

The only thing that I think deserves any consideration at all is that fake pimp that got tax advice from ACORN. A fake pimp getting tax advice from ACORN doesn't seem to warrant all of this hysteria about ACORN. If anyone can explain it to me, please do so.

>> ^Nithern:
While two idiots in this presentation were clueless then (as this is a 1990's presentation), as they are now, I do not accept this video as 'legit'. There are many places in which the video seems to be dubbed or redone to push a political point. While I dislike what these people have to say, trying to dub it to make it seem even more evil, is just evil in itself. Why not just play the whole video, as it was, and let the two individuals pass or fail on their own merits?

This is a video from Everything Is Terrible. They find old VHS tapes of terrible things and make short internet clips of them. I'm very sure that they don't dub anything. The most they would do is chop up the video to make it look like they're saying something funny. The re-editing is to make it funny and short enough for an internet video. Their only agenda is hilarity. Apparently this guy makes prophecy videos that are 10 solid hours long, so you really don't want all of that context.

TDS: CNN Leaves It There

Holy crap, that's the best criticism of CNN that I've ever seen. He pointed out exactly what I hate about CNN.

But I still find myself watching CNN. Does a better news channel exist? Do we have real news anymore?

He's wrong on one point. You don't HAVE to believe this if you believe in monotheism. If you wanted to, you could be a complete idiot and think that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old.
