Joanne's implants are turned on & hears for the 1st time!

I still don't really understand why some people in the deaf community are so upset about cochlear implants, claiming it is destroying the deaf community.

To me, it seems like a community of people with missing limbs saying that using artificial limbs is destroying the missing limb community.

If this is American teacher education, we're all doomed...

I don't know about the USA, but in the UK you don't necessarily need any degree at all. You just need a PGCE qualification (a fairly straightforward qualification on basic teaching including practical experience) and a "good understanding" of the subject you want to teach, although that will often be a Bachelors degree.

Dog Extra Excited To Start A Sled Race

arghness says...

I've only been dog sledding once (in Norway), and the dogs were all incredibly excited to run. They were fairly patient until I put them in their harnesses and then they were pulling as hard as they can, despite the brake being on the sled!

They're so cute when they get to stop for a rest as well, and just dive head first in to the nearest snow bank to cool down / drink.

What bugged me the most about the movie is knowing you can't get to the other stations like she does. Those things are hundreds (thousands?) of miles apart at any one point in their orbits. They made it look like going next door for a cup of sugar.

Once she had the Clooneycination, I thought we were going to find out her getting back down to Earth was the same, and she died, spinning off into the void like Darth Vader was supposed to.
