Does southern country-rock (Allman Bros. / Skynyrd / Little Feat / Uncle Tupelo) fit? If so, hook me up with an invite!

And yes, I am aware of the difference between West and South, smart-ass types.

Freddy Adu (USA - Poland) (1st goal)

Woland says...

Do we (the USA) stand any chance in the next World Cup? I used to watch the Cosmos during the era of Pele, Chinagalia, and Beckenbauer, and hope that they'd inspire US soccer to be big one day. Is this kid a Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo? Is he that good?

Exciting nonetheless.

Graphical Banner ads which make me feel sick (Sift Talk Post)

Woland says...

Hey MINK, I agree with you that a lot of advertising is sick and evil, and I hope you realize my post was a joke (I rely too much on emoticons to carry my meaning), but if you brought the issue up, please do continue to discuss it; you've obviously got support.

Don't go away because of us obnoxious snits. I was simply trying to expound on Fletch's point that this is a voluntary community and the admins are working to make it a happy one, and Farhad's that advertising is a necessary evil; yet we all have to suspend some sensitivities when we see shit we don't like here.

If it matters, I've voted for almost all of your video posts, so my comment was simply a joke to make a point, not any particular statement against you.

Hope you stick around.

Dnevnoy dozor - Day Watch - Totally Sweet Trailer

Woland says...

Just my opinion, but I think "Night Watch" failed to impress you for two main reasons:

- the production was big-budget enough for you to subconsciously feel it was on the same level as something like "The Matrix" (the trailers certainly made it appear so), but it had "corny" bits that didn't come off right because of our "filter" of what makes a good sci-fi movie

- the subtitles were awful, and the sentiments of the book in its native language did not come off right; Russian is not an easy language to translate when it comes to emotions, art, philosophy, etc.

- third bonus reason: they're still learning how to make movies that appeal to western audiences in Russia (but they're well on their way IMHO); this was really the first "big-budget" film there, and all the standard "Hollywood" pitfalls apply
