Skateboarder's Failed Attempt at Tube Riding

Portal End Credits Song

Tandriel says...

The song is really great, by the way you can extract it from the game files, all you need to do is get a tool called GCFScape from here and look in your Steam folder in the file "portal content.gcf".

For the game I have to say Valve expanded the original formula of the student game Narbacular Drop with an incredibly good sense of style, I really love the voice of GLaDOS, the speaking sentry guns and of course the Weighted Companion Cube <3 ! And I'm sure we've just seen the beginning of the portal idea used in games, it really amazes me how far you can think outside the box with the portals, as an example have a look at the speedruns from this youtube user (SPOILER in case you're going for the gold achievements), I figured out the way to get to gold in these maps but already this person almost halved both my times on these maps with a few great ideas.

Juggling hammers while driving a nail in the ceiling

Tandriel says...

OBI is a large hardware store chain in Germany, and I very much suspect that it's a viral ad because at the moment they are advertising the "Hammer Fall" (the German "hammer" can also be used in the sense of "awesome", "dazzling" or also "special").

Day in the Life of a Procrastinator

Tandriel says...

Just yesterday I decided to watch Spongebob for the first time in ages before getting back to getting my stuff done (working on my diploma thesis) and of all the episodes it's the one where Spongebob has to write an essay and heavily procrastinates. And now, just as I'm taking a short break to look at videosift before I get back to my stuff I see this. Oh I'd better get back to work now :-)

Skis + Longest Escalator In Europe + Temptation

Tandriel says...

According to wikipedia Kreegath is right, I just checked it after reading about the Moscow metro in a novel. Angel tube station's escalators dates: vertical rise of 27.4 m (90 ft) and a length of 60 m (197 ft) - Park Pobedy's dates: 740 steps, and 126 m long, the station is 97 metres underground. I'm not sure about this particular station but in general some of the metro stations built after the beginning of the Cold War were intended to be used as shelters in the case of an emergency which explains the depth of the station.

Marble binary adding machine... in wood!

Tandriel says...

I wonder if this is a good way of explaining the binary system to someone new to it or if it would just add to the possible confusion.

Now that the constructor of this machine has the addition done what's next? I can already imagine a comparator with weighing scales. And after that: The Marble CPU.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we've just seen the video. What we've seen speaks for itself. The videosift website has apparently been taken over - "conquered" if you will - by a master race of overacting praerie dogs. It's difficult to tell from this vantage point whether they will consume the amazing ukulele play or merely own the home made light saber duel. One thing is for certain: there is no stopping them; the praerie dogs will soon be top five. And I for one welcome our new rodent overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a yet-to-receive-a-star videosift personality I could be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground video queue.

VideoSift Delurking Week (Sift Talk Post)

Tandriel says...

I would call myself a lurker, I very much enjoy the site but I usually don't have the time to look for good videos very often and if I do find a nice one it is usually recommended by a friend or I see it on a blog or news page (as happened twice already this week after not at all for the last few months :-). Most times when I check the sift I just want to have a quick look at the new published videos or the Top 15 to get my mind off of my diploma thesis which is why I almost never comment since I'm in a more "passive" state then and I seldom feel I have something good to add to the comments of the clips.

Concerning videosift being "cliquey", I think that there is a very strong core of sifters who are omnipresent here, but I still think the community is open to everyone. My own experience was very good when I was greeted by Farhad2000 very shortly after submitting my first video.

I hope I'm a bit closer to being delurked now :-)
